Ah ok, thought you were trying to sensationalise old new :)

Yeah, I think it is $5k a day, boats are pretty expensive to run, to go on a fishing charter can cost similar, I think the tender was up to paying someone 2 million for 6month contract, the tender that won is $600k for 6 months.

It's a catch 22 situation, you bait to kill sharks, but baiting possibly bring more sharks in. I heard a report on the radio about subsidising shark-shield watches instead, basically making them cheaper to buy, they are about $700 currently, if they were at a price of $200 then more people would purchase them. A much cleaner simpler idea. IMO.

What if they were to train a crack squad of dolphins sporting laser cannons to patrol the most popular beaches. They locate a nasty shark that they have been trained to recognise i.e White Pointer, Tiger, Bull, Greater Hammerhead etc and they collectively slice him/her into Mercury and Ammonia Laden Shashimi.

have always had trouble with the idea that hammerheads are maneaters, i have caught and eaten approx 120 of these over the years. great fght, very strong and fast but they fumble the bait and take 2 bites at least out of a bait any whaler or tiger whoud swallow all the way to its as@@##. having said that i have never dealt with one over 2meters  and some men on the rigs claim they have seen them strike dummies during demonstrations

i agree with ya shayne hammerheads are pretty harmless... their mouths just arent big enough to eat you...

very strong fighters on heavy tackle... got towed around in our 21 foot boat one day for a good hour before getting it alongside the boat... just over 3m from memory... little bit of a head shaker even after the big fight... but i didnt have any trouble removing hooks - werent swallowed.... and once loose it just swam away.... pity we didnt have cameras on our phones in those days....
