#283920 Vaping

Posted by Peckoltia on 14 May 2013 - 04:42 PM

I just mixed my first batch.

How long do i need to let ecauldron juice steep for. I know it varies. I had peach tea and black briar bottled up?

I've got a pack of darts with 4 left sitting in the centre console of my car. They will be getting thrown in the bin, haven't even felt like one since getting on the vape.

yeah, got about 25 spare drilled cartos on the way. How long do you use yours for before chucking em?

Yeah, I'm drawing the line at 6 tanks: 5 plastic liquinators and one SS I think is the tally so far. I did go on the hoosier last night, they do some awesome ones, brush SS 60buckaroos. Looks mint though. So maybe have to draw the line at 7. :)

#273888 February Meeting

Posted by Peckoltia on 14 January 2013 - 02:42 PM

Hi

I will be giving a talk at the February PCS meeting. The topic will be "Keeping and Breeding Freshwater Stingrays".

Stingrays have been a pretty hot topic on the forums as of late. Generally speaking the stingray scene is pretty new here in WA, making it an exciting time for stingray keepers and potential keepers alike. I will be doing my best to keep it relevant to the stingray scene in Australia. Some of the topics that will be covered will be;

  • Caring for pups
  • Feeding and Nutrition
  • Water Chemistry
  • Mating
  • General Care

I will do my best to answer any questions that anyone has on the night.

Look forward to seeing many of you there.

*committee; if their is anything that needs to be added to this thread, please feel free to do so.

Kind Regards,

Alex

Hi Gully

I'm finding it hard to follow your post. I can't tell where one bad point ends and another starts!

Age has nothing to do with this, at 21 you are no child, I am only a couple years older then you mate. Your friend has knowingly broken laws that are in place to protect local biodiversity, not only that but has encouraged others to do the same. No, I don't know him personally. But to me if you are going to behave in this manner then I don't think much of you, simple. To me this is more an issue of environmental degradation first and foremost, it is secondly a threat to our hobby.

I'm not sure what other wonderful things your friend has done with his life. It is irrelevant. Acting tough, "you wouldn't say it to my face" isn't going to get you far in life.

Justify it which ever way you like. You have broken the law, laws that are in place to protect the wildlife you supposedly love. Then have tried to justify your actions through some circular logic.

I'm really over this.

If breaking the law and flaunting it is your thing, then so be it. Things always have a way with catching up with people.

Take care,

Alex

Do not try and confuse the situation with your circular logic. Your comparisons between marine wildlife laws and other laws has no relevance. Your misconception that politicians sit behind desks and make these marine laws is totally flawed. These marine regulations are based on science, science that has been studied and put in place in order to protect marine biodiversity whether you like it or not.

Who are you to decide what species are in abundance? What training or study have you done to qualify you to make this sort of judgement? Bugger all I'm guessing. Your mind set that you will continue to take the next generations to do the same is also a silly thing to suggest, as you are breaking the exact laws that are put in place to ensure future generations can enjoy wildlife.

Your logic is whack my friend.

Our hobby is already placed under the magnifying glass enough, without nitwits out there breaking laws to fill their aquariums. You want a job in the aquarium trade but your actions are completely contradictory. Whether you see it or not, your actions and the actions of like minded people are putting our hobby at risk.

You have openly admitted to breaking laws, and frankly not caring. Not that it is needed, but you have also put your full name and mobile number on the forum for all to see. Stupid is an understatement.

That is enough out of me,

Happy fish keeping everyone.

Alex

That's a terrible attitude to adopt. Rules are in place to protect marine species. It is people like you who are fully aware of the laws, that ruin it for everyone. I hope you do get caught, and fined heavily. I'm not sure how you can compare garage sales to the illegal collection of marine organisms? That is like me saying because some people rape and murder it is fine for me to graf up public property. So by your way of thinking it is fine for all marine keepers to go out and collect their own live stock as it is not for 'gain'?

It seems your name is an appropriate one.

I make no appologies for being forthright. Your attitude stinks and you should be made fully accountable for your actions, and the fact that you are more than willing to admit to breaking wildlife protection laws on a public forum speak volumes.

The aquarium trade is in enough trouble without people illegaly collecting wildlife for their home aquariums.

#40594 What to do when your Tankbusters get too big!

(madasa)
I have already stated my opinion.

However I wonder why someone would post a thread and pics which would likely offend quite a few people?

People are offeneded by these pics? Maybe people just need to unwrap themselves from the cotton wool covering them.

Some of my lil silvers. Was about 15 of them in a 4x18" at 3-4" a piece. Sold them off until I just had a few left. I eventually sold the remaining pair at roughly 16", the bloke i sold them to then sold them to seaview aquariums for some fronties 8O . They have them at the store, although they now reside in a tank that is far too small for them!

In the mood to post pics. Please anyone else keeping tankbusters add to the thread, or we may start a new one.

Here is a pic of my old pair of senegals. Spawned for me a heap of times, but eggs were quite tricky to hatch...

Sorry mate. Was it a small leichardti?

Roughly 1cm a week. Crazy growth rate. Only other fish I ever had grow that fast was my Arapaima, although I only had it a short time before I moved it onto someone a little braver then myself (or sillier)... wink.gif

What else are you keeping in your 7x3?

mmmmm tangerine zebra!

I've kept just about every tankbuster imaginable at some stage. I only have two tanks set up at the moment, which is a good rest from things.

One being my reef tank and the other is my 8x3 housing my Undulated Moray eel, he is an absolute beast of a fish. They max out at around 150cm, mine is roughly 80cm at the moment and growing at a good rate.

Although he is leaving me in the near future. Has been a pleasure to own, as I'm going to set up my 8x3 as a tankbuster tank once again. Work in progress. I also have my new house under construction at the moment, with a overly large built in aquarium seperating my gym and my fish room. Will be fanastic when done.

Here is my undy -

G'day

Their has been a recent increase in the amoungt of interest shown in tankbusters. My favourite type of fish! wink.gif Beware, most of the 'tankbuster' type fish should be left to the serious hobbyists. A 6x2 is not going to suffice for long. I have seen a heap of Alligator gars come back up for sale lately, once hey have hit 40-50cm and have out grown their old homes.

My favourite fish I have ever owned. My beloved Tiger shovelnose. I grew her from a tiny 5cm twig to a 3' mass of muscle. An absolute powerhouse of a fish. Unfortunately she jumped out of her tank smashing straight through the 12mm cover glass. I saw the whole thing and put her back in, but her injuries were too great and I had to put her out of her misery. I would compare that day to losing a dog, a truely majestic animal! pure beauty!
