Look at this little fella, when I first got him if you put him next to a pictus you'd say the pictus was nicer fish, for a $2000 fish I was feeling a little concerned with my purchase.

He sure is starting to look better now IMO, I've seen some adult pics and can see why they are so expensive. He's eating frozen prawns and whitebait, so just like us he has the convenience of haveing someone else to kill his food for him.

You'd be able to keep them in a 6x2x2 for a year or maybe two, in fact you could proabably keep on in there its whole life, but preferably you'd want to move to a base that is at least 2'6" wide as the fish eventually gets to 2'. At its current rate of growth I would say he will be 2' in aprox 18months.

I recommend you keep small tankbusters in a small tank, and increase tank size as they grow, meaning there is no point in keeping a 2inch tankbuster in a 6foot tank. Its much easier to monitor them and ensure they get enough food when you keep them in a tank thats in appropriate proportion.

Hes only in with the pike but he seems pretty calm, have not seen any aggressive behaviour whatsoever.

Been considering it seriously.

Just don't have anywhere for a small one at the moment, and not really too keen on setting up more tanks.

Yours is lookin' awesome.

Very nice Den, but in 2 years you will have something more like http://www.perthcich...p;p=66109#66109 and these tanks are 6x4x2 and still a very tight squeeze  8O

Saratoga? I mean this in the most polite way but you should perhaps read a thread properly and look at the pictures before making comments

Clearly my topic states the species name and photos, and is a different species to the fish in your video. 8O The fish in your video is a Pseudoplatystoma and mine is as stated a Merodontis which only grows to about 60cm.

Umm ... I Did! .... I know that... the point is for a even a 60cm max beauty like yours.... your proposed 2foot6inch wide tank will still be a squeeze in 2 years time. Yes... I was not clear enough to state the difference of species in my post. Sorry to have stepped on your post M8.
