Hey all, just checking if this plan seems ok.

I am thinking to get a 8x2.5x2 with driftwood and large pebbles with a fine sand substrate. For filtration I was thinking on 1 fluval FX6 1 astro 2212. I'd use 2 300W heaters to heat it.

For fish I was thinking

2x Jags
2x Oscars
1x GSP
3x Bay snook.
Also a school of something, ideas would be much appreciated.

Would that be enough filtration? And is that too many fish?

Cheers

For a tank that size you should get some nicer tb's, not saying your fish of choice are bad I have 6 snooks myself but for a nice big (not to mention exspensive) display like that some rarer eye candy would look awesome in there. Few good fish over east been popping up for sale lately a lot of festae, dovi, p bass and cuban cichlid juvies. Those fish together in a tank would be amazing. As for schooling some scats would look good in there or clown loaches. Everyone loves clown loaches !

Thanks guys, I'll make a 5 foot sump.

Changed my fish list... How's this sound??

2x Jags, I know these guys are common and not overly exciting but I can't resist putting this guy and a female in there:

2x oscars, I know these guys are common but I have a pair growing out in a 4 foot that need the extra space soon.
2x red terrors, these guys are my favourite cichlids.
1x GSP
4x archers or scats.

Any other recommendations?

Not sure about the archer/scat idea, to me it just wouldnt look right.
Also having these mostly common species in this tank would always make me want to get rid of them and throw in something cooler... Frontykwal has given some great options.
Although your second list would look bloody good minus the scats/archers.

Sorry knock, not a fan of any of those fish you mentioned.

How's this sound?

2x Jags
2x Oscars
2x Red terrors
1x GSP
1x Uaru
2x jack dempseys
1x black belt

If you find any uaru let me know. I only know of a few in wa let alone Australia, I sometimes wish I didn't sell mine.
The most beautiful and peaceful fish I've owned. I don't know how they'd go with some if those agro fish as mine where super timid guys.

All in all it's a big tank, so I think monster fish would suit it better
Stingrays!!

This list is better... As they get bigger you might have to change it up if any of them get angry.
If you want to see a great setup check out sam johns post in tank busters... i think its titled 1100 ltr update... just awesome!

rays are generally left alone by most fish, and they don't bother many other fish.

I want a tank with rays geos and arowanas

Uarus, are very much like discus, in the way of they really like their peace.
Surprisingly, and something I'm going to do in 1-2 years,,,,, is discus go very well with rays if the tank is deep enough of 700-800mm or more,,, also being a tb size tank.
Discus do well given their own space above the rays.
Uaru, really need the bottom to feel well.
