Hi hi! Welcome to the forum.

What are the rocks? Photos would be nice.

Once we know the type there will be a few here to recomend what they may or maynot leach into a tank/soil.

Admin: Is he allowed to mention his company?

Hi Matt,

Can you offer members a discount at smiling rock and we can conduct some test for you? As an example im interested in purchasing in the next two weeks some black and white polished pebbles.

Are We Talking About Rocks Used For Display Peices / Ornaments Or Substrate Rocks (Small Crushed Gravel)

All Limestone Buffers Ph An Tds Shell Grit And Crushed Coral Is Much The Same Raising Ph And Id Imagine Texas Holey Rock Is The Same So Majority Of Your White Stone Rocks Will Raise Tds And Ph

Basically Anything That Is Comprised Of Calcium Carbonate

Acryclic Coated Gravel, River Or Play Sand, Glass Sands ( Tahitian Moon Sand, Betta Sand ), Or Slate Wont Raise Your Ph Or Tds

And The Aqua Soils/Ada All Bring The Ph Down Varying Degrees Depending On Quality/Brand Being Used ADA Amazonia/Up Aqua With The Strongest Ph Lowering Effect And Some Degree Of Water Softening Is Also Observed (These Substrates And Majority Peat And Clay)

Hope I Helped A Bit

Edit: Easy Way To See If It Raises Ph Is Throw It In A Cup Of White Vinegar And See If It Bubbles After A Few Minutes

a couple of guys have grabbed rocks to test with already so i was more interested to see what their results were

i cant give a discount to anyone because im just the monkey, i dont call any shots there

but i would like to know the results for bonsai and for aquariums because i get asked about it a lot, and would like to have an answer for people

im sure theyll post on here somewhere eventually :)

ps; im not on here to spam up the forum with advertisments from where i work, that would be quite rude

but u can find the stuff that we sell on the website, just type smilingrock in to google ;)

Certainly was Malawi Man.

One of Australia's largest automotive forums do it skylines australia.com.au with great success. Not just that it further spreads positive word in the community.
Offering a discount to thousands of loyal forum members is a great way of advertising. For a minor reduction in on costs to your product you can in turn reduce hundreds/thousands of dollars of marketing over heads.

If Matt can't do that then no problems good on him for letting us know and can understand his situation, I have used smiling rock personally and rate the business highly, as I mentioned I need some new rocks so if the opportunity arose I was happy to help out a fellow forum member.

Hey guys,

I am one of the people that grabbed some to test. I just have not had the time yet to test them all. Though they have some awesome looking (and non-Ph buffering) Bonsai Rock which I used in my latest re-scape. Very cheap, nice people and a lot of interesting rock there. I also used marble that I sealed in my aquarium. The seal lasted 5 months before finally giving way and altering my water (slightly).

If you take some nice large high quality photos, I can identify what rocks they are and their composition :)

I've recently been into smiling rock and picked up some really nice marble stone. From what I've read it's just a form of highly compressed limestone anyway so if we're all going about dumping kilos of limestone in our tanks some marble shouldn't hurt.. Anyway I've had some rock in the tanks for over a week now and more in the pond getting green!! :) Ph is testing normal, and the trophs love the extra rockwork:)

Couple pics below
