I will buy some as well, i am going to get some shell dweller hopefully and that substrate is just handy to have. Whats the price if you buy bulk? I am after only about 20kg or so.

Whats the pink thing near the tank for the flow towards the sump (i think you would call it the overflow). Is it just the overflow or something else like an inline heater or fluid bed filter.

I think it might be a Bio-tower.

it is currently theoretical, but it might be a bit of 100mm pipe containing shreds of 40mm pvc pipe to baffle the water flow to try and minimise noise. iam currently just leaning to angling the vertical drop towards the fron of the tank, so the water flows, not drops smile.gif

I cant remember if i posted the siphon idea or not. Basically have a siphon with a backup durso. In normal operation you get a silent overflow, then when the power cuts the siphon cuts off as the water drains. When power starts again the durso kicks in so the tank isnt dependant on the overflow. Was from a marine forum with a guy looking for the most silent overflow possible.

As for any water running down a pipe, just angle it so its not vertical. I would guess that water running down a baffle will clog, slow the water down and may still be noisy.

yeah i will ditch the baffle idea, i have it setup for flow on an angle at the moment, so will try that. im not interested in durso's atm, i think my setup is pretty similar anyway to a durso. biggrin.gif
