I've lost about 3000 - nearly all spawns were gone within in about a week - is it frogs, Pygmy Perch, lizards, Dragonfly Larvy - anyone got any ideas - the few that have survived seem to be ok as they have been going for about 6 weeks - the last big spawn I have put into a tank in the shed and when grown more I'll put them in the ponds.......any ideas anyone???????

Dragon fly nymphs will kill and eat them, also birds will have a crack. Generally pygmy perch dont bother tadpoles and they will co-exist without problems. That or some kids are catching them while youre not looking! What species are they?

Hello Mal,
I concur with ice re dragonfly nymphs, but you would need an enormous crop of them to consume that many tadpoles.
If you sort out what is definitely causing the problem, I would really like to know as my problem is with the motorbike tadpoles. Like you, I have had frog spawns that resulted in literally thousands of the pests. I call them this since they adversely affect the breeding of my honey blue-eyes, to the extent that it is rare to see any fry, or indeed even eggs, once the tadpoles are more than a few days old. I have so many tadpoles that most of my breeding angels will no longer accept them as food. I see evidence of occasional dragonfly nymphs, but these are equally as undesirable as the tadpoles when it comes to raising fish fry.

Ha ha. Unlucky Syd, anything that eats tadpoles is probably going to eat your blue-eyes. Your best bet is herons and kookaburras, the blue-eyes might be too quick for them.
