hi I need some help. I have had a blue cichlid Peacock??from baby for 18 mths its about 15-18cm and it has just started to attack and kill my other cichlids. Its is currently in an isolation tank. Any ideas to help would be a great. An id on this fish would be great cos I'm not sure what type of cichlid it is
I have attached a picture ( hope it worked)

When a fish goes on a killing spree, i get rid of them. They will continue to weed out the weaker fish and keep picking on them, one by one. Some times the reason for this could be the tanks to small or not enough hidy holes, to many males, not enough females, wrong mix of fish and so on. Some times you just have to get rid of that favorite fish for the harmony of the tank. cheers Steve

It started to move rocks all over the place in the big tank about the same time as it started to kill, is this a sign of anything I should look out for and in the last day it has totally rearranged the holding tank. What is the best way to get rid of it (not that I want to but I'm running out of tanks and hubby want let me buy more, said we will need a house just for the fish soon)
Bowdy you are about the third person to say its a dolphin or looks like a dolphin.

Thanks Steve in my heart I know that but where you watch them grow from babies its so hard.

Seems like you need to make a decision, the fish or the hubby.( really it's a no brainer ), fish don't answer back. laugh.gif Cheers Steve

Another solution, add him back but also add 10 more fish, over stocking will curb the agression.

Have you got more pictures of your little killer? What size tank do you have him in? Do you have any other dominate fish in the tank?

In this tank I have 2 peacocks(10 -12cm), 4 sucking cat fish of different sizes, 1 eletric blue(15-18cm), 1 electric yellow x(10-12cm), the bullys sibling(15-18cm)
Since taking the bully out the tank has been quiet calm.
As I'm not sure of the sex of the fish in this tank and I'm still learn about cichlids that more info I can get the happier I will be

What size is the tank? If its big enough and you have the filtration put more fish in. This will disperse the aggression.

The bully and his sibling both look like males, this is probably why they were fighting, trying to be the dominate one. Only keep one of them, once i know the sex of my fish i only keep one male with 3-4 females. This usually results in a harmonious tank, however you can still get the odd rogue fish.cheers Steve

Should it be a blue dolphin the anal fin if male will go past the body and stop in the tail fin. Should it be female it will stop at the base of the tail fin

Interesting mix that fish. Looks like a Venustus X Moori.

The way I have minimised agro in my 5x2 malawi tank is to have absolutely no ornaments, just coral sand as substrate. The fish find it difficult to create territories as there are no visual boundaries for the fish to create a territory around.
