Never been big on discus (maybe because when I worked in the pet shop I found them a pain to maintain.)

Im wanting to stick to bigger exotic fish.

Hence why I thought maybe some large geos might work in the mix of bass, shovelnose etc.

Sweet thanks mate.

Yeh so I just set up the tank. I'm thinking I went a bit overboard with the plants and decor and now there is no space for earth eaters to... Eat earth. Thoughts? Should I go with discus instead?

Well, only one way to find out...  I think some redheads could be quite happy in that.

What other south american cichlids would do well in this? Some apisto's? Will they get along with discus?

apistos and any other dwarf americans usually go well, butterfly, german blue, neon blue etc but if you wanna go for more expensive go the apistos, ive also got some corys cause they are good at cleaning up after everyone else and sift ya sand for ya

I have Bolivian Butterflies and Apistogramma trifasciatta with my discus.

They both breed in there and leave each other alone.

There's some pics here

Corys are good but I don't like how hyperactive they are so I went with Deinema urostriatum.

I like the sound of that Ronny! What catfish do you recommend? I want something to eat algae and clean up. Must be South American.

Theres not many algae eaters I'd trust with discus as some of them like to eat the slime the discus produce.

I'm not saying you definitely cant put peppermints or BNs etc. but I just personally wouldn't risk it.

I do however have royal whiptails with mine as they were reccomended to me as didscus safe.

So far, the whiptails don't bother the discus and are diurnal so they don't any nasty stuff at night.

The discus leave them alone too which is good as they have really long hairlike extensions on the tail.
