Hi All

August meeting will be held on Tuesday the 7th of August... location details can be found HERE

August will be the PCS AGM and we strongly encourage all members to attend and have their say.
We are currrently accepting nominations for the next committee which will be voted in on the night. (Nominations can be sent to any committee member via pm).
Anybody who is interested in joining the PCS committee but is a bit unsure on what is involved pls dont hesitate to contact any of the other CM for a chat about what is involved.
Further details can be found HERE
(Link will only work for club members)

For the second part of the meeting I will be doing a talk on DIY LED lighting.
The talk will cover basic LED building, mainly focusing on building with CREE LEDs, also covering power supply's and building your own cheap, easy and efficient LED Drivers.

This will by no means be an exhaustive talk, but I will be happy to answer any questions on the night.

As usual the canteen will be open selling canned drinks and Ray will be cooking up a storm on the BBQ.

We hope to see you all there on the night.

So I finished building one of my LED lights today in preparation for the up coming talk.
This is it being tested on the floor in the spare room.

When compared against a fluro we found output to be fairly similar.
However this light cost $47 to build and draws only 17w.
The LED driver cost a whopping $1.70 to build and uses less than 1w while operating, working on nearly 95% efficiency.
That is a third of the price of a pre built driver and much more efficient.

Hope to see you all on the night smile.gif

I was going to build a marine one for Ray, but the DUMBASS forgot to order them.
So looks like demo will be freshwater only.

However I can still answer a few questions on it.

My brother and I built a pretty awesome marine one not long ago, if I make it to the meeting I can bring it for ya to use as a prop? Not quite finished yet as it needs a bit of glass and a fan because it gets a bit hot after a few hours of operation... but it works well smile.gif

There ya go.
We can constantly blind Ray with it as a reminder to place an order.

I won't be able to make it tonight, but wanted to say a big thanks to the outgoing committee members and a good luck to those who will be new to the committee. I appreciate the time you all spend running meetings and doing all the unseen work to help run the PCS
