The rostratum only arrived yesterday, so are in a tank on their own for the time being.  I'm not sure where they will end up yet.  Having watch them for a bit they will certainly be going into a large tank with lots of open areas of fine sand.  Watching their feeding behavior is going to be fun :)

I got some Taeniolethrinops praeorbitalis as well yesterday.  I'm guessing they might work well with the rostratum.

A couple of shots I took today of the largest Exochochromis anagenys in my little group.  This guy is around 13cm and showing the first signs of blue

Hey humbug have you ever kept Protomelas ornatus or Protomelas sp menji thicklip?  Just want to know if you come across them often?

They are both classed as Eclectochromis species these days.  I think I've seen "thick lips" referred to on exporters lists as both E. lobochilus "thick lip Mbenji" and E. labrosus "thick lip Mbenji" if my memory serves me right.

I'm currently keeping Eclectochromis ornatus “Masinje” and Eclectochromis lobochilus hertae. They are both around the place in small numbers.

Sorry to disagree, but I'm pretty sure that the family of Eclectochromis doesn't exist anymore. They have been re-classified as Protomelas .... I think about 2 years ago

So P. Mbenji Thick Lips, P. Hertae (no lobochilus anymore), P. Ornatus "Kirondo" and so on...

But I'll ask my friend AD at the meeting and let you know :)

You could well be right Mattia!  Its hard to keep up with them!  I just looked on cichlid_forum and they have them listed as Protomelas, which is in line with what you are saying.  I'll do some more digging. :)

But then to counter that, Fishbase has them as Eclectochromis

I have a nice website to suggest that is always updated :

It's all in French, but easy to understand.
I will start looking for the official PDF that I read a while ago about the new names!

Timing is all wrong for me unfortunately. I would have loved to have come. I certainly did all the planning for it, but I need to be at home that weekend.

Are you sure this isn't Otopharynx Sp. Golden "Blue Face" ?!?
The silver torpedo is different ..much thinner and with a very pointy face, something like a sardine! ;)

Photo is actually showing him more yellow than he's appearing in the flesh.  Also, photo isn't a great angle - he's actually more elongate than the photo shows. I wondered myself, so I did a bit of hunting.  He's reasonably consistent with the photo in Ad's 4th edition and a couple of other sources I've found - but I'm certainly open to other info!!!

Does it look like this ? This is a silver torpedo from Cichlidenstadl, Germany
5de544391895ca23b7828b27a39fe8b1.jpg

Maybe it's a strange angle, but it doesn't look like it the same to me :/
I owned a wild trio for almost 2 years, I love this species!!!

Otopharynx gold. "blue face" for sure,,,,,, cichlidenstadl also has had these on their lists from time to time.
It's actually said that the silver torps in oz are tainted and not pure,,, there is another otopharynx nic named blue torpedo and is said to of been crossed with the silver torpedo,,,, but the silver torpedo could be crossed with the gold blue face to.
