1. can we sell discus on here?.
i reckon neil if your into em then good on ya, i am a fan of hybrids myself, which is not to say id ever breed em or sell em but id much prefer a flwerhorn over an aulonocara anyday of the week. now that would make alot of the people on here very angry and a few would agree with me , i guess its what keeps the world spinnin mate. at the end of the day if you like em and wanna keep em then great.
i think theres no right or wrong here just opinions which is great
steve

One problem with some publications (particularly news papers and mags) is they regurgitate the same info we all hear and read elsewhere. Is there anyone that can give us more detail into when, where or who did this X'ing?
Even Ad quoted "probably from a hybrid between ..." so even he hasn't got the backup info to be sure.
Funny thing is this post from Cichlid-forum.com
http://www.cichlid-f.../ob_peacock.php
They state "It was engineered by crossing a male Aulonocara species with an OB female mbuna, at least initially."
How did they know even the sex of the individuals involved initially? Do they know more than the rest of us? Maybe someone using that forum can ask Marc Elieson how he got that information. (or which book he read that in ....just kidding )
It would be good to get this settled one day, but at the end of the day, the OB variant in Australia is so mixed now regardless.

The article you point to seems more based on the ethics of hybrids and not written for the purpose of detailing into the ancestor origins of them.
If you have the time to mount a thorough investigation that finds the exact species used to create this hybrid well good luck, Im sure there will be someone in the world who cares just kidding  . For me I'm just happy to accept the obvious that this fish is a hybrid and move on.

I am not agreeing/disagreeing with the fact that it is a hybrid, see my first post on this thread, I only wanted to stick up for cichlidnut. And at the same time there seems to be a bit of 'hearsay' in this fact, and rather than letting it go, I would like to find out more about it. Can't there be a possibility that it might have come from inbreeding, like albinos, even a hint maybe?
Once upon a time, the world was flat, the sun revolved around the Earth.......(maybe not the right examples, but I can't think of any better ones at the moment.)
I'm just keeping all options open, though I am of the firm belief that it is a hybrid, I just want more detail to confirm this, and I think this is the same for people like cichlidnut.
For now, we must wait until someone can prove where marble peacocks came from, but do give them a chance.
