Hi all

Have set up my first dedicated planted tank today. All plants were kindly donated by Dan biggrin.gif

2' cube 200L
150w MH (10000k)
2x 24w T5HO tubes (labelled as daylights - is that 10000k also??)
Substrate seems to be a mix of Eco Complete, a redish woomera looking rock and a fine sand. I picked it up off MatHarvey a while back.

Will most likely replace some of the lightning with a lower Kelvin rating / colour temp.

Still deciding on filtration. Perhaps a small canister or hang-on depending on what fish I stock it with.

Any suggestions on where to go from here??

if you go to watergrass.net they have some nice 8000k metal halide bulbs that some planties are using, and getting great results. You going to do HC or glosso or a ground cover?
I have heaps of plants which are always in need of a trim if you ever want some more too mate

Both are ground covers, and pretty popular
HC is Hemianthus callitrichoides
and glosso is glossostima elatinoides.
Look them up on google and youll see what you can do with them.

They both look quite nice but leaning towards the glosso. Where can i find either of these?

Hey Dazza

When the plants start to grow, you can start snipping and replanting!
Look forward to seeing this tank fill out!

Just wait till that chain sword takes off, can be used as a foreground plant as well.

Also wondering about the HM? Theres none in there?

Cheers
Dan

Some updated pics. Tank is coming along well. Have noticed a lot of semi-transparent algae growing on the substrate about 1cm which I assume is normal for a newly cycled tank. I've vacuumed most of it out.

Got a few cichilds in there at the moment who are recovering from a smashing in the main display tank ohmy.gif

Do you have co2 on it? If not... definatly worth getting in too...

I had to prune my 2ft planted tank once every 3 days with the ferts and co2 i had running through it. Would watch the plants 'breathe' and bubbles pouring out of them at certain times of the time. Very cool.

Gday Blakey

No CO2 yet but planning to. I wanted to get the tank cycled and become familiar with ferts etc first. Might try a DIY before forking out on a CO2 tank, regulator etc.

Did u get an electronic controller as well or do u manually turn on the CO2? How do u monitor your PH?

Hey

Coming along nicely

I have a solenoid with my regulator and just put it on a timer, so that it coincides with the lights.

I never bother with the ph. Mine is nearly 1-2 bubbles a second for my 4 footer.

After some painstaking, backbreaking hours on Sunday my planted tank has had a transformation smile.gif Have gone for a stepped / 3 tiered look with a black pepple foreground.

Next task is tidy up the algae. Want to also get a nice bankground (in-tank).
