#347697 Save Our Sound

Posted by Riggers on 09 December 2015 - 07:28 AM

This is a very close subject to me as I own a small beach house directly on Cockburn sound.. I've just been told that I now have to demolish it by March of next year.. I was prepared for this as its been an ongoing issue.. The government has sold a portion of point peron and surrounding land to a large multinational corporation who are going to develop a large inland marina. In the process destroying 6ha of sea grass. Cockburn sound is a well known fish nursery, take away breeding ground and you take away the fish...

It just goes to show that no matter what we do the money always wins out in the end...

You're not really allowed to keep snakes on sand. DPAW have issued warnings to a few people about it. I thought that was the crushed walnut shell or whatever it is that you guys use in Pet Citys

It's the desert blend reptile substrate, made from natural crushed english walnut shells, looks and feels just like sand without the crappy bits n bugs in it

#347341 Water Change Ibc- Paint It?

Posted by Riggers on 29 November 2015 - 06:10 PM

Yeah painting it would definately help with the algae, maybe something like API algaefix on a semi regular basis just to keep the algae down over summer while the temp is higher

Even the rarer types of fighters only retail for $80 max!!
I don't know why a crowntail fighter would be considered rare...

#347256 Freshwater Sole..

Posted by Riggers on 27 November 2015 - 03:23 PM

Yeah Jase both the sebae and argents :)

Is the pics your tank or the shops ????
Would be nice to see fine sand about 5mm thick.
80% light sand 20% dark sand mixed,,,,,,, creates best camouflage spangle markings.
Even though sold as fresh water species, I'm pretty certain as they mature, they need salt/brackish for proper health,,,
I think they live first short part of life in fresh water then move down stream into ocean areas.
Also pretty sure there is such thing as proper freshy soles,,, but hardly ever came into oz.
What size are they and what shop ???

That was a pic from the store I got them at, I've got em in a hexagon tank at home, just the 2 at this stage, I was going to use the tank for a blue ringed octopus but I saw these guys and fell in love!!

They are about 5-7cm at the moment but unfortunately I can't tell you the name of the store as its not a sponsor store, send me a PM I'm happy to point you in the right direction :)

Where these from a store that buys off Aquarium Industries? Saw them on the stock list, pretty cool. Also, if they have eaten yet, what do they eat?

No mate, not from Aquarium industries, i paid $20 each for em, I just liked that they remind me of a flounder :)

#347206 Got An Old Veggie Patch

Posted by Riggers on 26 November 2015 - 10:13 AM

You could get some liner and use that inside the tub, it would save you having to get ply and paint. Great idea, you could have a little garden bed or you can use some polystyrene and make some floating rafts for a couple of pots :)

G'day mate, the finer sponge is the one you want at the top, pretty much all canisters (with a few exceptions) will draw the water from the bottom up, this way bigger heavier chunks stay at the bottom and can't interfere or clog the impeller.

What sort of pump do you have? Is it inline? Either way would work but I would say put it after the canister, again so it's just drawing clean chunk free water :)
