i know pcs disagree with hybrids and so on but please leave this up.
this is my flowerhorn at 4.5cm, at day one he is fed to date on tetra bits only.
on a weekly basis ill post up pics of him after a diet consisting only of white crane and we will see how this stuff works on growth and colour

day 1 -

day 7-

I would like to try to cross him with C.monoculus, they are a little bit larger than him but it should be ok.
I did an experiment about 6 years ago with White Crane. I got hold of a pair of sajica and fed them nothing but WC, after the 3rd generation spawned I decided that WC does not stop fish from breeding. They did colour up very nicely, a sort of bright grey.
Your experiment will be very interesting.

Hi Steve

Sorry to be critical but scientifically your experiment will mean and prove nothing as you need at least two test "groups" of fish.

One group would have to be fed on the whitecrane and the other with an alternative food, both groups would have to come from the same gene pool and be kept in identical water conditions but obviously in different tanks. Then you could make a comparison and determine the effects of the food.

With only one fish at 4.5cm we would have no way to determine wether any colour change is influenced by the individuals genetics, natural maturation and to what degree did the food play part in the colour transformation?

Cheers

I agree with den you have no control group for comparison. Which is needed if you are to prove anything.

I dont think this is meant to be a strong scientific test with control groups and singnificantly significants numbers.
More of trial that may prove interesting...well done Steve.

Clearly an interesting projiect and look forward to seeing the outcomes.

A research based experiment would of course require a control group but i dont think we ar elooking at that...unless of course you are looking to publish Steve LOL?

well no lets forget experiment and lets say, "Lets see how quick he colours up on WC only",
Terry - these guys have been crossed that many times now he probably has bass in him somewhere laugh.gif.
Regardless of the outcome it will be a photo comparison week by week at best and you guys can make up your own mind

this pic was from the opposite side to the first, i just flipped it to show it facing the same way. i only feed him once a day. but since the first6 pic ive taken all other tank mates out and hes become abit shy
note more spots on tail plus spot on back of head is getting darker, not much change in body colour

i used white crane for my cichlid tank, is two weeks all the fish fully turned into color. it made a vast color change to my electric blues, yellows, variety of peacocks and red empressess. In two weeks they change colour, even my female breeding blues which concerned me abit , hence why i stoppped using it.. after about a month they went back to normal..

great product, looks fantastic but i would recommend to use the white crane as a supplement for the fish rather then a permanent source of fish food, ahahahah its damm expensive..

good luck tho, im gonna get some more tomoro
