Moss Like Stuff Growing In Media And Canister Filter

16 July 2016 - 07:50 PM

I was cleaning my canister filter before and noticed that its been over taken by this weird moss stuff.
Does anyone know what its called?
Is it a good thing to have in my canister filter, will it over tank my tank if it gets inside?
Lastly if it is good to have in filter would u recommend that I put some of the media into my other canister filters to seed them?

Faulty Heats Electrifying You Water??

14 July 2016 - 03:09 PM

Hi all. Recently I noticed when i put my finger in one of my tanks I got a tingle. It was a cheap heater from china. I then checked and found another 2 heaters
that do the same thing. Weird thing it isnt triping my power? So i threw them out and got some more heaters for my tanks.

Well I was just checking my discus tank and its happening now with another heater, except this one is an EHEIM heater?

Is this normal that the heaters put a small voltage into the water???
Im worried now as I have 10 discus in my main tank and no more heaters left
Any advice greatly appreciated all

Sump Construction

20 June 2016 - 08:37 AM

Hi all, I recently picked up a basic sump and a 4x2x2.5 foot tank and cabinet.

Plan is to drill the tank and install bulkheads down to the sump. Just trying to figure out what size bulkheads to buy and what size PVC pipe to use to match the flow of my pump.

Tank is 4x2x2.5 foot so around 540L and I have 130L sump. I found this info and they recommend the sump to be around 20% which is 108L so this 130L sump should be enough to not fill completely and not over flow with a power outage.

now to pipe sizing and bulk heads.  I have a 5000L (1320G) and a 3000L (792G) pump..

So looking below for 5000L pump do i use the 1.5" (42mm) PVC tubing?

Stand pipe Size Gravity Flow Rating ¾" 330 gph 1" 600 gph 1¼" 910 gph 1½" 1300 gph 1¾" 1800 gph 2" 2350 gph 2¼" 2960 gph 2½" 3650 gph 2¾" 4450 gph 3" 5280 gph
