Any ideas on gender? If it was female I'd have to say Morley Aquariums would be the ideal place for it, imagine if Paul can get Flossy to breed :) I dare say it would bring some life back into the tankbuster scene in Perth

#315725 Starting Discus Tank (Need Help)

I'd be more inclined to look into substrates that will buffer the ph for you, surely it would work out cheaper than paying for a CO2 setup and the ongoing costs?

#313991 Dead Fry From New Fry Savers.

Posted by BristledOne on 25 April 2014 - 03:43 PM

There's also the "MetaCube" brand of boxes that seem pretty good. At the moment I just use a generic clear acrylic fry saver that floats in the tank, found them to be pretty good but I always have an air filter pushing some fresh water in or they can get a bit of a film building up on the surface of the water inside the fry saver

#312325 April Auction

Posted by BristledOne on 02 April 2014 - 12:26 AM

This was the first Auction I've ever actually attended, PCS, fish or otherwise and I have to say was impressed with the turnout and amount of lots.

Scarab I ended up with your "golf ball" sized amount of US fissiden, I think you've not seen a golf ball before because there is a rather generous amount in this bag! I cant see any algae or snails in their either which makes me happy

Thankyou to both Scarab and Happyfish for the plants and of course a huge thankyou to the PCS team for throwing together tonight's auction!

I've edited out the companies logo (bottom left) and the company name/address (middle slice)
But it does say for all who attend, doesn't say you had to compete

#307675 Cbs With Rcs

Posted by BristledOne on 10 February 2014 - 06:25 PM

NeoCaridina and Caridina are the two different "genus" of shrimp commonly kept, the Neo type are the red cherries, yellow cherries, blue velvets etc. The Caridina genus include Crystal Black and red's, Golden Snow Bee's, blue bolts (and other tibee's)

So to prevent interbreeding between types it's best to keep only one type of each genus in a tank. So RCS and CBS or Yellow Cherries with CRS. You should try to avoid keeping RCS or Yellow cherries together or keeping CBS and CRS together.

Some people keep CRS and CBS together as often the black from the CBS is dominant but this is still frowned upon as it dilutes the bloodline and can produce muddled appearances. Also means when someone breeds two CBS together it may produce a CRS young.

There are however "michlings" which are a mix between either a CRS or CBS and a KingKong or Bluebolt but that's a whole different story.

I'll send you a "PM"

#306588 Shark Killing, Ridiculous

Posted by BristledOne on 30 January 2014 - 12:14 AM

"Just a quick thought...." - I never would have guessed. Why not devote a few more minutes of consideration before typing. You can use the time to read previous posts properly.

Like I said before "The rest of your argument it out of context. The discussion is the removal of a wild animal that has the ability to attack - the rest of points are simply accidents."

More a turn of phrase than anything really. I read all the previous posts before contributing, that's an assumption on your part that I didn't. Kind of like my assumption that you've not really thought much into the repercussions of baiting and culling sharks.

The discussion is the removal of a wild animal that has the ABILITY to attack

I've been attacked by magpies, lets kill them

Bee's sting people, lets kill all the bees (and wasps)

All dogs and cats possess the ability to attack, lets slaughter them all too.

Bulls, they have horns lets kill them.

Even kangaroos have a nasty kick to them

etc etc etc

You cant just go and slaughter things because you are afraid of them or because there is the CHANCE you could get bit.

I've just had a brilliant idea that can save you from shark attacks though Leigh, basically we get a big hole and line it with something like concrete and we can fill it with water and perhaps put a fence around it to prevent drowning. Basically it's like a big bathtub, I might call this invention a "pool" and the people who are afraid of all the nasty fish in the sea can buy one and stay away from all those evil animals that "have the ability to attack" which you know, kind of describes pretty much any animal on earth including humans.

In Africa, a lion that encroaches on inhabited area's and is perceived as a threat is removed. If it is lucky it is captured and relocated to Kruger or similar (obviously preferable option). If it is not - it is shot.

A, this is Australia
B, Sharks are yet to grow legs and start attacking people in inhabited areas. Unless BigJohno has some freaky experimenting going on up in the hills to create an army of land-sharks
C, In those cases of a lion attack they probably have a much easier time identifying the specific animal responsible for the attack

#306498 Shark Killing, Ridiculous

Do we eliminate dingo's who start exhibiting dangerous behavious to humans.....yes, we do.

http://www.nprsr.qld...management.html

http://www.frasercoa...culled/1742832/

The rest of your argument it out of context. The discussion is the removal of a wild animal that has the ability to attack - the rest of points are simply accidents. However, if that same nutmeg stalks and kills a girls jogging thru Kings Park at 11pm on a Saturday night - then yes we should ban the sale of nutmeg. Even if nutmeg enthusiast bleat that it is just doing what nutmeg does in nature, the nutmeg was in Kings Park first and if we don't want to be killed - we should stay away from King Park which is the "nutmeg's territory".

Just a quick thought, but with their being more deaths per year from electrical causes (not including the recent bushfires caused by faulty power lines) Maybe we should disconnect Leigh's power for her own safety. I mean, if you don't want to chance the risk of a shark attack then you sure wont want to risk being killed by an electrical fault would you?

While we're at it, tear up your drivers license because driving isn't safe... And you better stop eating any foods that could cause salmonella, then we can empty your fishtank to prevent drowning incidences and line your walls with bubble wrap to prevent any boo-boo's

Honestly, this seemed to all stir up after the idiot American Tourist got attacked a while back and all of a sudden there was this desire to find and kill THE shark that caused it. I still feel this is a distinctly American way of handling things, shoot first and ask questions later.
