Clean Tank Green Over Night

16 February 2014 - 07:22 PM

Hi everyone

I have set up many fish tanks and I have never had this problem.

I re set up an old tank at work that had been used and completely cleaned by me 8 weeks ago.

It's approx a metre long.

I filled with tap water, put a clean filter in the tank. a few clean pebbles, no gravel and no fish.

the water looked sparkling clean, but the next morning the water was a revolting lime green.

I put sludge from my other large tanks filter in and the water went cloudy as expected and lime green wasn't so noticeable.

next morning silt from sludge on the bottom of the tank as expected but the water is still lime green and smelly.

I have not added fish or plants yet so not a case of over feeding, over stocking or waste

sorry I haven't had a chance to take my test kit in yet so I can't give you readings.

any suggestions?

thanks in advance

Deb

Pond Water Stings My Hands

08 January 2014 - 11:25 AM

Hi All

I have a problem with my pond.

When I put my hands in the water if I have a scratch or small cut on my hand it stings as soon as I have contact with the water, stops stinging as soon as my hand is dry

I am not being bitten by anything and water looks good and clear.

it doesn't seem to be bothering 2 yabbies, rosy barbs (fish orphans that have been breeding in there for 2 years) or a couple of frogs and water lilies are growing well.

this doesn't happen with contact with any other water but has been constant with my pond water for about 4 weeks.

anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance
