Haha I got mine as soon as I turned 18 ! Quite a few years now, mine was based from the cover of the metal face killah mixtape cover. Did you see doom when he came to Perth ?

Ahhh the time has come my friends, after 2 years of saying Im going to do a marine tank I finally started setting up my first marine tank last weekend, cheers Jules for parting with your nano tank that you very much regret trading to me haha I probably would of still put this off for another 2 years if you didn't have it up for grabs !

Here is my current setup:
Aqua One Nano 40 (40cm cube / 55 litres with built in weir at the back)
Eco Lamp KR Nano LED Lighting
Aqua One Nano Skim 80 Protein Skimmer
Eheim 900lph Return Pump
Aqua One 150w Heater
Aragonite Sand (10kg)
And just got a pouch of carbon, phos-zorb and purigen in the middle section of the weir with a sponge ontop of it all

Tank has been running for 7 days now and has already cycled, I bought 3.6kg of very good quality live rock from Ocean Reefs which did the trick. This is my first time playing with a marine tank so Im all ears for any pointers that will help me down the track to avoid rookie mistakes.

I'm not familiar with the names of many corals so wouldn't be able to tell you what I want to stock it with, but the only fish that will be going in the tank is 2 occelaris clownfish, just want to load the live rock with heaps of corals and have a nice looking anemone in there for the clownfish and I'll be happy.

I will update the thread every week or so as I go along adding new bits and piece to the tank, this weekend coming up I will be adding my first coral if water conditions stay up to scratch, can't wait ! Spent about 2 hours staring at live rock when I first got haha

Cheers, Tom

How good is it when your mate that says he will help take it off the trailer at your house comes up with excuses throughout the day that he cant help anymore. Go on facebook and his mrs is posting photos of them eating pancakes at home, swimming in the pool playing with their new puppy then going to the beach to watch the sunset... Real busy aren't ya buddy

#308609 What Spawned In Your Tank Today???

Posted by FrontyKwal on 18 February 2014 - 08:42 PM

The basslets are going good Paul !

Some of them are starting to swim around the tank now, playing in the bubbles coming out of the air disc haha, majority of them still hanging low on the bottom of the tank but still very active. No deaths I can see, egg sacks are almost gone so will start feeding in a few days :)

Just a little update on the bass fry.

Wednesday I came home from work and the wave maker I had running over the eggs had blown off about a quarter of the eggs off the rock which was pretty annoying, turned the wavemaker off Wednesday night and eggs started hatching Thursday. Probably about a third of the eggs were fertilised, pretty happy with the amount of fry so far at a guess I'd say between 80-120 wrigglers swimming around the bottom of the tank :) They are about 4-5mm at the moment and havn't seen any dead wrigglers so far so pretty stoked. Egg sacks are starting to get smaller so will start feeding micro worms and baby brine shrimp powder in a few days

Photos are pretty crap cos I'm taking them off my phone, they don't keep still aaaand after all they are really tiny haha. Can't seem to figure out how to upload a video which is better quality, when I upload the vid onto YouTube the quality of the video becomes blurry (worse than the photos)

Glass is 6mm thick so you get an idea of the size of them

Cichla monoculus 'Peacock Bass' spawned again today except this time Iv picked up the slack and got things sorted :P

Iv got 2 4x18x18 tanks for raising fry, copious amounts of methylene blue and some wave makers so no more fungus growing on the eggs this time ! This will be my first proper attempt at raising fry so fingers crossed it goes well !

Tank the eggs went into just dosed with methylene blue

Eggs on the rock they spawned on in the 6x2x2, next time I won't pick a spawning rock that weighs 10kgs that's 2ft deep in water. Just to show how many eggs there actually is, the far end of the rock in the photo is 45cm across

Woodvale lily and fish pond is the closest place that stocks it to us David, from what I can remember is was $18 for the pack of sachets that will last you ages, only reason I use it is cos I have no catfish to help rid the algae, the bass will smash bn's and I'm scared a pleco will eat the eggs when they spawn or get smashed attempting to eat the eggs
