metal hallide is not a mercury vapour, they are 2 different sorts. mercury vapour is not recomended for a reef.



sorry to have to correct you, but a metal halide lamp contains argon, and mercury and there for is a form of mercury vapour. i'm not an electrician for no reason, and i don't install these things without the knowledge on how they work to the finest of detail.

people assume metal halide is a gas within itself when in fact it's actually a mixture of gases, with a main ingredient of mercury.

Sorry to hijack the thread a tad, just trying to help people understand that a metal halide lamp does contain mercury and effectively is a mercury/argon lamp.

Thanks, nice article, I learned a few things from that, it is hard to get all that info in one page from a book or elsewhere on the net.
