Hi All,

A whodunnit for you all... I introduced 10 CRS into my 4ft heavily planted community tank yesterday as new members of my cleanup crew. They were joining the community of:

2 Royal Whiptail Catfish

9 cardinal tetras

6 Red Phantom Tetras

1 male apistogramma cacatuodies

1 female apistogramma cacatuodies with approx 25 week-old bubs

a few anonymous little snails

Well, this morning I found one shrimp dead (oh well, I thought, first death so far in my whole community tank) but could only find 3 more... still happily scrounging amongst the Indian Almond Leaves and Java Moss.

I figured the others must be under the leaves or amongst the driftwood. I did my weekly 20% water change today but... no sign of them!

Where could the little crtitters have got to?

1. I thought, suck up into the filter? No, I have a filter guard that has much small than the shrimp.

2. Did my male Cac (his name's Mad Frankie Fraser B) ) eat them? Highly unlikely, he's a bit of a bovva boy but I think the feisty 2cm shrimp would be too big for him to munch (he and wifey prefer soft foods anyway).

3. They are still there somewhere?

Any of you sleuths got any ideas?

Cheers.

I know 100% that it is not the whips. I rather suspect the apistogramma.

Aww dang, and he acts all precious when I try to feed him crunchy food. Poor little things, I feel terrible! The long term plan was to house them with a betta that I was planning to get next month (in a separate small tank) but to keep them in the community until then. Poor little guys didn't even last that long... Mad Frankie bumped them off. :(

That's why fish forums exist :)
Fish keeping is a learning curve, but if you don't ask the question and do research you're setting yourself up for failure.

He he, yes that must be it. ;)
Yes Jason, you're right. I do normally research things pretty thoroughly, this was a bit spur of the moment and a bit of bad judgement on my part.
Frankie is a lovely fish, he's just a bit of a boofhead... he's being quite a good dad (he only acciently ate ONE of his kids) and of course he's GORGEOUS. He's not aggressive to any of the other fish in the tank, wifey is half his size and much more feisty. :)
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback and reminders.

They are known hence forth as MTW's. This i believe should be endorsed by the PCS Committee.

Well it seems I judged Frankie too soon... My little friends seems to be showing up again (lots of hiding places in my tank). It's hard to tell how many have survived, but it's more than I thought. So not a total disaster. :)
