cheers guys
Best discus in the world IMO. Stunning fish mate, good job.
How big's the tank?
The juvies in pic 1 are in a 3ft and the rest are in a 4ft. hoping to upgrade to a 6ft soon as they def deserve more room than they currently have.

wow!
Im assuming these fish wouldnt do well in a tank with redtail sharks, a green terror, jack dempsey and electric yellows?
Posted 24 October 2013 - 02:18 PM
different water requirements and wouldn't go well with discus

Discus are very docile and normally you have them in tanks as the main fish with 'dither' fish surrounding them (tetras, small fish). Red Tailed sharks move a bit fast round the tank and also can become a bit agressive (they seem to like to chase fish), which would stress out a Discus.
I think Discus would be ok with EY's and JD's(EY's are harder and can live in lower PHs) but really they live in a different climates, thus do not go well together. Discus natural climate is around 6.5ph and I think EY's and JD's is 7.5PH.
I think its mainly the Red Tailed Shark that would be an issue.

I disagree. Discus definitely would not be ok with EY or JD. They would not be able to compete for food at all, not to mention the starkly different preference in water parameters.

I guess I didn't write very clearly, yeah. I was trying to word my comments in a a way to say that that some people have mixed Discus with other fish, but it is not best, as Discus cost so much and are so docile that other fish usaully dominate them. And if you did, you would always have to bring the parameters to the Discus levels and not the other fishes levels.
So, it's best just to make the Discus the hero and have support fish to help fill out the tank. Especially when they cost between $70 and $400.

ah ok i didnt think so. thanks for that!
One of my EY is fairly aggressive (its a little c*nt haha), the sharks seem to keep to themselves and chase eachother, my JD is a pussy and the green terror is mean! haha.
I seem to have a fairly aggressive tank :/ but for some reason i like it
