Hey all

I have already been reading up on a lot of stuff here. I has been very helpfull.

The plan is to keep keep a planted aquarium with tiny fishes and shrimps.

Got a small Tank (3x1.5x1.5ft) and got the lights. Currently I am building a stand for it as I want the stand to be slightly higher than the stands I can buy from the LFS.

Also Im trying to decide which filter to get. I am looking between ehim 2215, 2226 with biomedia and also fluval 406. Im just confused as to what would be best.

Anyway, once everything is up and running, I'd love to share it with all of you.

2215 is cheaper but requires more effort cleaning. 2226 is easier to clean but pricier. I love them both, but if price was no object I'd go 2226. If budget is a consideration, the 2215.

Eheim media is supposed to be superior to Fluval also.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me decide with buying a LED lighting. I am currently loking at

Dalua SS freshwater range shown in http://www.daluaaust.../1/Default.aspx

and

Fluval Aqualife & Plant Full Spectrum Performance LED shown in https://uk.hagen.com...-Lighting/A3981

I want to have a go at growing some carpeting plants too. Please also let know of any other options if you know.

I've recently added some of these to my (early stages) planted tank - Brazilian Micro Sword (Lilaeopsis brasiliensis) http://www.fishforum...s-brasiliensis/

Mine doesn't look as grassy as the picture in that link yet though. I'm still waiting for it to fill the gaps in the chessboard planting pattern I put them in with.

For lighting I'm experimenting with an evolving custom spectrum ratio of LEDs from http://www.rapidled.com/ , about to order some more (got 14 total for a 4x2x2 tank at the moment, 5 red, 1 far red, 1 UV, 1 green, 3 cool white, 1 blue, 2 royal blue). Will be adding 4-6 each of royal blue & cool white because my tank looks a bit too Christmassy at the moment .

It's a bit cheaper than buying one premade, and they have solderless LEDs if you don't want to get too geeky with it.

+1 for Ehiem filtration. I've opted for dual smaller canisters (2213), one in each corner. Experimenting with DIY CO2 for now until I can justify the expense of a proper setup. So far so good.

Good luck with your setup, sounds similar to what I'm trying to do (about 2 months into it), but instead of shrimp I'm going for catfish (so it's a woody aquascape), with a school of rasboras above. Careful with the shrimp, Fisheries are pretty harsh on them lately.

Ended up buying a Duala SS freshwater range LED unit from Aquotix.

Very happy with the light output and it feels solid too.

Now I am looking at how I can provide CO2. for the plants. I have to research into the matter first. Dont want to spend too much money but would like to have a pressurised CO2 setup.

Yep its Jap Rush - Acorus gramineus var. variegatus, green & white

I've got some nasty looking dark green algae on my HC right in the bottom centre of the the pic. Any ideas on how i can get rid of it without ruining the HC? The HC seems to be hapily growing to the sides tho..

I recently got 2 siamese algae eaters and they cleaned up the algae pretty good. They were really good at it too. I've been having a hard time finding any shrimps..
