Hi guys,

I'm intending on setting up a 8+ foot tank just for the aggresive/predatory fish species. I'm starting them off small so I can see how it goes.

I'm thinking so far

Jaguars
Red Devil
Red terror
Black belt

Just wondering if anyone can add a few more suggestions for some fish with "teeth"

When I read about the northen pike and gars etc I was highly tempted, but I don't have room for a lake. So I guess I'll settle for the next best thing.

Some large Texas Cichlids would look awesome in a tank with those fish, I happily keep them all together and mine do fine, so you should have no worries.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to chuck in Convicts (mainly as a eating source for later) and to experiment and had considered Texas, so thanks for the confirmation.

Just had a look at Peacock Bass and must say I impressed. Just wondering what they are like compared to Jags? As in more impressive or equally so?

Holy crap Payara have teeth worse than a pitbull!!! Any info on these I can only seem to get game fishing tips.

Well for a native approach:

Barramundi
Native Western Australian Black Bream

But natives are a little bland in colour so tropical predators will look much nicer.

compared to jags, about 4 times as big, 4 times the colour, 4 times the mouth size, 4 times the amount they short out your powerboards, good ol tankbustas

hmm Payara seem a bit extreme besides I doubt anyone can get hold of them... P Bass I'm tempted but surely you would need at least a olympic swimming pool?

think he meant the P Bass but barras are cool just bland. my 10cm barra ate a 4cm convict, looked like a python dislocating its jaw to get its kill in 8O

This kinda poses the next question.... where and how to get a P Bass laugh.gif

A guy at the LFS said he had 1 arrowana 20cm and a barra 15cm and because the barra though he could eat him he bit onto the head and killed the arrowana but in the process he chocked to death and died ahah

Myne is a pig he eats and eats we have to cut him down but my dad is one of those feel bad for the fish people and always feeds them and says "it look hungry" when does a fish never look hungry laugh.gif biggrin.gif

The main thing is food, predators cost you a heap, so breed some convicts up or buy alot of feeder fish and have a separate tank. Ours went though endless packets of brine shrimp and blood worms biggrin.gif

Sorry for hijacking and off topic.... back on track....

lol thats ok, interesting story. just read some more about the payara and realised that they don't grow as big as I thought (65cm) which would make it aquarium sizeable. Now I'm hooked on the idea of these or P Bass laugh.gif thanks ScubaSteve haha now you've probably got me on a insurmountable mission to find these fish not to mention building them a sizeable home.
