Bit of a question to add. My gf bought me 6 of these guys for my birthday (wonderful girl she is!) and they seem to mostly have settled in nicely. Swimming around a lot but in the background, not as much time out in the open. Just wondering whether they will pose a threat to other fish? And also whether, on the occasions that my cichlids spawn, they would try and eat the eggs?
Luckily my geophagus are either delayed or immediate mouthbrooders anyway but just curious as I have no prior experience with the catfish.

Mate just going from what i've seen in the shops there are Geo Rio Pindare and Geo "Red Head Tapajos" as well. Obviously there's Brasiliensis and then dwarfs like Rams and Apistogramma species at different stores. Unsure what "rarer" ones there are about but i'd be interested to know. Also curious to know where you're getting the Leucosticta from if you're able to tell me as i'm looking for two more to go with the two I have.

hehe yeah measured it. it's 6x2x2.
Small update. The first spawning attempt by the Geo Rio Pindare failed but i've read and been told that that can happen with young fish or first time spawners. Will wait a while and hopefully they'll have another (hopefully successful) attempt.
Did a bit more aquascaping and the tank is looking much nicer now. I'll get some more recent pics up in the next day or two.
Added 2x Satanoperca Leucosticta that I got from Vebas. Very nice looking fish about 5cm in length.
One quick question to anybody that may read this. Any suggestions for any large cichlids that I could keep in this tank? Just as a "feature fish". My reading tells me that Uarus and Severums are pretty docile in a community setting but that Uaru's absolutely chomp on plants. I've read mixed reports on Severums saying that some like plants and some don't. Anybody have any experience with Sevs and live plants? (Hmm may have to create a topic to answer this questions). I have Java moss, Java fern, Anubias, a species of Crypt and some of that common Vallis in the tank. The geophagus are leaving all the plants alone atm.

Thanks for the info Alex. What I thought was the male (I might be mistaken I guess) appears to have a swelling in it's buccal cavity and i'm hoping it's the eggs it's incubating. The 2nd half of the pair is swimming around with the other two and "mum" is still fiercely protecting the nest. This is a different strategy to the Brasiliensis when they spawned but i've since learnt that they don't mouthbrood at all.
Fingers crossed that I still have some fry but if not then next time.
Thanks for the tips mate
