#360961 Gas Attack

Posted by Poncho on 08 April 2017 - 07:59 AM

I'm getting a sense of deja vu. Wasn't it about 10 or so years ago when the hornets nest was stirred up and the yanks invaded Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction that were never found?

The attacks won't solve any problems and never have. I think in 6-7 years when tesla and Elon musk prove to the world that they've solved our problem of oil dependence that no one will give a toss about the Middle East anymore and the innocents will finally be allowed to get on with life

#360887 April Meeting - Live Foods In The Aquarium.

Posted by Poncho on 05 April 2017 - 07:20 AM

Very informative presentations from Bostave and Terry and also Extend with fish of the month - thanks heaps guys.

Was a really encouraging turnout - I think we had about 20 - 25 attending which is a boost for our regular meets. In fact Andrew Soh the month before was about 50 people and the auction in feb was around 80 so attendance for this year so far has been amazing!

Lots of chat amongst members in the breaks so if you haven't come to a meeting yet, it's a good time to see what it's all about. Next month is an auction so will be a busy night again but in June we are planning something a bit different with cichlid bingo and quiz night - should be a lot of fun so hope to see some new faces and lots more cichlid talk!

Nice to see some breeding action guys ;)

Today I spotted:
Neolamprologus buescheri kachese fry about 1cm
A heap more Neolamprologus multifacsiatus and brichardi
Pseudotropheus williamsi with another gobfull
Taiwan reefs mouthful
But best of all Cryptoheros septemfasciatus - laid eggs ad hopefully they're able to raise some juvies. Probably the third to fourth spawn and this time it's been a long time between drinks - had some domestic violence issues to sort out

#360698 Poncho's Fish :)

Posted by Poncho on 26 March 2017 - 03:02 PM

Great pics!

Usually people say the pics don't do justice to the fish but in this case they look a heap better.

Chop, the collection has been scaled back whilst I'm trying to insulate the shed. Taking me way longer than I had hoped for but when it's up and running, you will have to come down and check it our

#360651 First Batch Of Callo Fry

Posted by Poncho on 23 March 2017 - 09:00 PM

I have 8 that are at 3cm currently. Haven't had another mouthful in a while though and I plan on keeping these 8 and growing up a larger group to use as breeding stock.

Found them really easy to raise once the female spat, but starting to see a couple of the larger fry picking on the others. They're pretty hard on their conspecifics.

#360354 Roe 8 Protests: Good Bad Or Ugly?

Posted by Poncho on 13 March 2017 - 09:49 PM

Idiots?

It's this narrow minded and stubborn refusal to allow others their opinion that inspired people to protest so actively in the first place. To sum it all down to people upset over a few trees shows just how out of touch these attitudes are.

Can you show how you came up with $100m wasted? That's seems quite extreme to the point of being laughable.

I've been in the environment game for quite some time. Enough to know that 2% is never 2%. It looks that way from an initial approvals perspective but long term it's the first cut of a thousand more to come. Why go there when there is a better alternative? Industry is at Kwinana. $4bn for latitude 32 from industry lined up in the near future - the government needs to accept that Fremantle is no longer a heavy industry centre. It's residential, tourist and commercial. Get on board with industry and complement their investments instead of fighting with progress. Utter bullshit to suggest that can't happen within 20 years. Just need people to adjust to the fact that Roe 8 isn't happening and shift focus.

Great example of where you end up when your stubbornness gets in the way of making sound decisions - bye bye Barnett and thank god we don't waste anymore money on a stupid out of date project.

Hopefully McGowan expands the port in Kwinana now

#360294 Newbie - Questions?

Posted by Poncho on 12 March 2017 - 06:20 PM

Probably. She may have picked up a heap of gravel or sand when spawning and over time spat that bit out and made her mouthful look smaller.

Sounds like you're doing everything right but if you want to let the mother spit the fry naturally perhaps put some fine leaves fake plants or something to let her spit in and protect the fry should she want to eat them afterwards

Neo brichardi
Pseudotropheus hajomaylandi
Protomelas steveni Taiwan reef
Pseudotropheus Williamsi blue lips
Neo multifasciatus
Neo brevis sunspot

All in the last week - slowly building the fishroom and breeding stock up once again

#359810 New Camera

Are those rostratus Az?

Pretty good images for a camera you've just bought. There's so much you can do with those nikons so I'd expect the pics to get better and better once you've had more time to learn how to use it - still better than any I've taken.

Look at Ronnys pics - he has the same type of kit and winning international photo comps with it. Hit him up for some tips Az
