Cheers Phil.

I've got some larger shells in another tank that'll also add coz I was thinking the same that the current ones were a tad small.

Wait till you get the other side rocking with plants with the aquasoil Daz, it looks really good. I've got aquasoil as my substrate in my 6x2x2 planted tank and it's coming along really well, need to get some more plants but will have to wait till i've recovered from the surgery done to my right knee. If i can, i'll post some pics of what it looks like at the moment.

So have you tried the new filtration yet? How are you finding the Rena Smartfilter? Is it worth the expense?

Hey Kieran.

The Rena Smartfilter is good. Polishes the water well, flow rate is good and plenty of aeration. Doesn't appear to be a mass amount of media to allow for bacterial filtration compared to some of the more traditional HOB filters but at the same time this probably helps keep a steady flow rate. I've been keeping an eye on ammonia & nitrite and there's been no traces as yet which is good! I transferred a couple of handfuls of seeded filter wool from another filter to give it a head start.

I don't have a problem with the cost. There's a lot a variance depending on brand, build quality etc. These are in a similiar price bracket as the AquaClears.

Hey Tim

Sorry..... I just saw your question!

In the vid clip you'll see 2 large alto comps, one is a lot darker than the other as he spends most of his time hiding (camouflaged). There are 3 smaller comps in the tank also. AFAIK they are all the same gold morph, no idea on the locality though. As far as the term "gold head" goes I see a few people refer to the "real or true gold head" which I think could be Altolamprologus compressiceps Mutondwe Island probably because the body colour differs so much from the head.

They will spawn in caves or large shells. The dwarf species like Altolamprologus compressiceps "shell" (mbita & sumbu) are considered shellies.

Hey Nic

Yeh that one (above) hangs out near its shell most of the time (I would too knowing there's some big gold comps close by). The second occie I got from you hides in its shell 95% of the time since it's been in there. Either very scared or is guarding some youngens??
