If you dont like driftwood you can use Indian Almond leaves as well.
However they will still add tannins to your water making it brown.

I run purigen in my tank and its chockers with wood. Polishes the water up really nicely and gets rid of the tannins(brown/yellow colour). Presoaking and boiling cant hurt either. 7.6 is around what my tap water is too and with wood in my tank and a neutral substrate i get a pretty constant PH of around 6.8 without any additives. Should be perfect for your peacock bass. As for tank mates id wait till they are bigger or they will get picked on and stress out. Not worth the risk man.

Not sure, ive got 3 in with my mangrove jack. Thats how tough they are. Ive got one out the back which i nicknamed devil scat, due to it being a notoriously agressive little fin nipping mongrel. If youre lucky youll get a nice one, if not youll get a normal one. Like i said i wouldnt risk it till the peacock bass are a big more established (probably 5" or so). Wont take long!

QUOTE (fish @ Mar 28 2011, 05:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
2 P bass
1 or 2 Red scats
1 Feather fin Catfish
1 Salmon tail Catfish

Scats & Salmon cats prefer high pH and a little salt added to the tank. PB's dont.

Let the PB's grow a little before putting other fish in with them, they stress easy when they are young and can get whitespot quick!
In my experience with them (Not much) they don't like the chemicals used to cure W/S and go down hill REAL quick.
Make sure they are fed small amounts many times in the day, I have seen PB's eat each other if they don't get enough food or they just get too skinny and you can't bring them back into shape.
They are a high energy fish, so they need a good quality food. Don't skimp when its comes to PB's they are a premium fish so they should be fed premium food's and looked after real well, fantastic filtration etc. They aren't a fly by night fish IMO.
Good luck with them, they are a sensational fish when cared for properly and become real pets when they are adults. The 2 that work had a few years back were awesome fish especially the female, like a puppy on steroids smile.gif
If you want to see some really nice set ups, check out Den's threads from a little while back. Some REAL nice set ups for PB's.

to remove tannins, use active carbon in your filter. Just be sure to replace it every 6ish weeks.

well done looks much better with wood anyway.
maye i suggest you do alot of googling if you intend to keep the PB alive, because ph is a pretty big thing and so is nitrates and lots more.
i suggest you pick "dens" or "peckoitas" (spelling of names.. sorry) brain.
good luck with them.

Much better. I'm sure your fish will be happier in the long run.
