If you cant watch fish eat fish then i suggest that you DON'T and i repeat DON'T watch this!!

Pirahnas chomping mice very nasty vid!!

It wasnt pretty. I wonder why frozen couldnt be given...I appreciate that the big predators have their instincts for live food but in an aquarium just how difficult is it to convert them to frozen.

Do you feed frozen if possible?

Couldnt you wiggle them in the water feigning life?

Not taking the mickey or criticizing but curious.

I guess in the wild rodents and small animals do fall into the water - still not pretty.

Sorry but i could only watch the first few seconds of that.
In the wild i am sure small mice etc fall into the water but this is a home aquarium, no mouse with an ounce or less of brain would go near that tank. I do not think this is needed, frozen like the others said would probably do.
The fact that someone would video such a thing makes me sick.
That mouse, bought from Petco was someones pet mouses baby, they possibly sold it to petco thinking it would go to a loving home to live a full life NOT be fed alive to some fish

Now maybe this one could make it to the rspca....
Local petshops would not sell live mice knowing it was for feeding purposes and on top of that theyre not allowed to sell them as food for reptiles, fish or human consumption thats why they have the frozen stuff.

Even though I dont mind this sought of thing it made me cringe to see the first one fighting for its life. I wouldnt have the heart to plunge one of those friendly looking mice into that death tank think id rather stick to goldfish.

I only watched the first bit, one of the P went to attack it and then the mouse swam into the plants. I had to tun it off then cause i felt sick.

Are you telling me that the poor little thing had to suffer for ages, the stress of being chased around should have killed it

I really fail to see why any fish needs live prey? Please can this be explained without reverting to it being their instinct, etc. Froxen food would provide the same nourishment surely and could be 'dangled' or whatever to feign life...

My friend use to do this with thawed mice to his snakes - u cant tell me they werent use to live food as they were wild caught.

Please dont take this the wrong way - Im just after info. There is so much talk of tankbusters here now that the more I can learn the better.

Madasa, I am with you all the way. Surely if the animal is killed without the use of poisons etc then the same nutrients etc would be available without having to put an animal through so much pain and torment.

Of course they could of fed them frozen food personally i dont even feed my fish feeders cause i want to keep aggression down, I dont want my fish to see other fish as a source of food.

This guy wanted to make a vid for you tube and i'm guessing it gets more attention, it got yours. tongue.gif

Monsta, you got it.
I was assuming that this guy did it to get hits in his video, sad really that someone thinks that being cruel to animals is a good way to get attention. The only reason he has more hits is because someone posted a link here for all those that wanted to view could. (unfortunately the curiosity killed the cat saying really is true, but this time the mouse)

Possibly actually helping fuel this guys fire

There would be 2 main factors as to why fish keepers would feed these kinds of things...

1. To watch the carnage...

2. The fish will def eat the live food where as with dead foods alot of the time the food is rejected and takes alot of effort to encourage the frozen variety... For example my Gar that i had refused to take prawn no matter how hard i tried and would sometimes take it then spit it out...Often floating to the bottom waiting to be cleaned up...

well thats imo and my experience... some like it, some dont...but id say that if u keep Tankbusters theres a good chance you've got that twisted side lurking somewhere...and to some extent will enjoy (live) feeding time! laugh.gif Its almost part and parcel with TB's and prolly 75% + of keepers will at some point engage in feeding live...whether it be fish, mice, insects, frogs or what ever...

here here
but who cleans up the fur from the mouse? haha did u see it floating around after the mouse 'disappeared'
sorry i also have that 'twisted' side that DR14GoNF14SH mentioned.
i reckon its the NATURAL behaviour of animals. i keep fish in a tank hoping that they behave 'naturally' and not like domestic animals (eg dogs, cats) waiting to be patted and given doggy treats
