Hey guys just need some advice regarding my 2213 eheim canister filter, it runn fine but I'm concerned it won't be enough to run my 150L cichlids tank i have 12 peacocks and haps in there . I put a sponge filter to help it along but do you think that's enough or do I need a bigger filter??

Hi Mike. With the sponge you 'may be' OK (assuming it is a reasoanble sized one) - are you talking fully grown peacocks/haps here or juvies. Sounds borderline and I hate being borderline.

Owning a 2213 myself, I noted that flow very readily degrades once you get even the smallest amount of buildup in the pipes. So the quoted flow of 440L/hr, which is more like <350l/hr with media in the filter and some head pressure soon becomes 200 - 250 once the filter gets even a small amount of buildup. Not to good when you tank is 150L.

I would ordinarily recomend a powerful internal to complement the filtration and get some water movement in your system BUT the otherday I was at Aquotix and saw that they had their

Astro 2202's on sale for $80.... I have paid more than that for what turned out to be crappy internals. Put on a second canister and you will have ample filtration. Flow will add another 600l/hr too.

Just keep doing regular water tests.

If ammonia and nitrite starts creeping up, its time to invest in a new filter.

There are too many variables with keeping fish to work out if your circumstances are fine.

I ended up taking Leigh's advice and got the Astro canister filter may be overkill but rather that than not enough

I've set it up but not sure whether it can fit other media in it apart from the coarse and fine foam only fits one basket into it is that ok?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Perhaps remove one of your sponges and replace with some good ceramic media
