Hey I have never bred any fish although I've always wanted to, the only reason I havn't is I don't know what I'd do with the fry. If any of my fish did spawn or something what do I do with them, I mean I'm not gonna be able to set up new tanks and grow them up, and I wouldn't want to use them as food. So do the fish stores buy them off you or what?

basically you'll need to grow the fish out after they've spawned, otherwise you won't be able to sell them to the store.
I'm sure fish stores really don't want to bother with growout and live food supply just to sell some fish, but when you get more room, you can start breeding fish, then when they're big enough you can sell or trade them in.

depending on the size of your tank you might be able to build a floating fry basket. im making mine out of pvc and nylon flywire with styrafoam siliconed to the top edge. it should work and you can make it pretty much any size. mines a 12"x12"x12" cube with an open top.
good luck

I also use the plastic floaties with no problem, this should do until the fry can either be put with parrents to grow out or just get a plastic tub,and make yourself a filter(DIY sections in forums),you shouldnt need a heater at this time of year.and theyll be happy as larry.:good

The other option is to breed step breeders. You can have a number of generations in the same tank with out much impact. Something like multi's would be the go. Small size, robust and breed easily.

just ring up a couple of your local fish shops, and ask them if they would be interested in the type of fish you want to breed.the harder fish to breed are worth more (obviously),but they will probably give you shop trade for just about anything (even feeder fish).good luck
ps...once you start, you will find space to put more tanks, its VERY addictive:p :good

I'm considering purchasingg some frontosa, which I don't plan on breeding, but it would be cool if they did. Are these fish wanted by fish shops if they do breed?

Any shop will accept fronties, that's if they havent got excess supply of them. I have some 7 bars I might be willing to part with...Interested?
