It will be on the same order as my 4x2x2 so I will have lots of work ahead of me when they both rock up

if your after a cheap aquarium you may want to rethink the led lighting unless your having a diy panel. Leds are great for low power consumption but are high in initial cost. Also if you want a silent overflow arrangement have a read here http://www.beananima...low-system.aspx You dont have to use the whole idea but it will give you a great insight into the water dynamics. I myself use a modified version that is completely silent unless something in the tank goes wrong. (sort of a fail safe cause if i hear bubbles i know something is wrong.) As for water movement if your after the cream of the crop look into tunze or vortec but hydor korrelias work just as well. Now what do you have in mind for skimmers?

I am happy to pay more for LED.. There is no way I am running expensive lights seems silly.. LED is the way it is any my other tanks already have led on them also .

Budgeting about $300 to $500 on LED light.. though cheaper the better

As for other equipment i have no idea what so ever.

All i know is that i want everything to sit in the sump,, EG Skimmer and heater pumps etc..

I was going to just do two holes at the top.. so if the pump was to stop or
something happen the water can only go as far as the hole at top thats it..

Mechanical fail safe ? is that right

if you want cheap go to vebas and have a look at their led panels over their tanks. They are cheap and have been proven to grow coral. While your at vebas ask about skimz skimmers they are good value for money (i have one as well). Im not being biased here, i have used reef octopus, aqua medic and a few other wierd named brands. Also if your on a budget check out here http://www.guppysaqu...om.au/index.php.
He is good, the stuff is genuine but it is most of the time a the stuff is a grey import. Also marine sources skimmers are good value for money.

With your overflow if you have a wier you get surface skimming. In a marine tank most of your dissolved organic compounds or doc's are in the top part of your water column, so a wier will help in sending majority of the water to your sump being high in doc's so your skimmer and other equipment are more effective.

What size holes should I do.

I'm still little confused on what the weir offers extra

A what I can see it maybe help skimmer work better

But as for protection , the tank Can't drain further than pipe inlet anyway yeah?

Sounds like you have rushed into this quite quickly without properly researching the dynamics of marine aquaria.

Take your time to read through the MASA forums thoroughly smile.gif
