Hi there,

Today I picked up a second hand 2217 for a very reasonable price considering it has some minor parts missing.
I was just wondering if anyone has any spare metal clips for their 2217 they'd be willing to part with for a small fee or if anyone could link me to a modestly priced pack of clips online that'd be great.

I am more than likely going to buy new seals after watching 'Dustinsfishtanks' eheim disaster on his 220G tank.

Cheers

I have clips & seals in stock. Ring the store for price (92762266). They are not terribly expensive.

Once the canister is running the clips don't to much at all. The vacuum created inside will hold the head on.

Thanks you guys,

I'll probably pop in on Monday if I get a chance.
@Bowdy, I know what you mean but I just want to be safe as it's going in my bedroom on timber floors. (I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if the unthinkable happened)

Will do.
Is a new seal a must?

If the seal is soft & supple, inspect for any damage. If none visible, give it a smear of vaseline & will be fine. I have a 21 year old 2217 still using original seal.
Clips are sold in a pack of 4 for around $12-15.

21 years what a gem. Hope I can get that from my 2180.

The key is to keep the seals lubed & lightly spray the external moving parts ( tap levers, clips etc) with innox, silicone spray or similar.

Has the technology/product not changed at all in 21 years?

I have seen no changes in the classic filter itself at all. Same materials used for the unit itself. The media is now a sponge instead of the nylon pad & the ehfisubstrat is now the pro. Improvements have been they now come with a proper return elbow & they are a lot cheaper.

'Cherman made'.

Thank you very much for the advice guys,
Inspected the seal and it appears very much intact.
I'd be happy to get 10 years out of a filter let alone 21!

Anyone know how old that eheim would be?

I bought it because I wanted the eheim/tank and it just so happened to come with it.
I will be testing it before plugging it in as I've had one short before whilst my hand was in the tank, thank god for circuit breakers.

Cheers

Turned it on this morning to see if it was running smoothly, second I turned it on it was making a very loud noise (almost like the impeller was being swung around in a clothes dryer).
And the hard plastic 'flare' below the seal is split, will this be much of an issue or can I get away with leaving it be?

Cheers

go your self an aqua one bud it does the same job, some of the other equipment is overated and over priced imo, beef up the media a little and its all good.

Went to take a photo only to realise I've lost my SD card.
To describe it as well as I can; it's the plastic ring that sits below the red seal on the 'lid'.
Got an Aqua one and it works fine, just a little on the loud side, keeps a 2ft cube crystal clear though so I'm not complaining.
I just like eheim for their reliability.

Cheers
