Well, its time to move my pink tailed chalceus in with my bass.

Last time this happened it resulted with 2 of them ending up in the basses mouth however bass spat them out cause there too big to eat.

Im wondering how can fish be added with out the bass having a go at them?

Perhaps feeding the bass a huge amount of food then, do a huge water change (so they sulk) then lights out and add the new fish - only to hope that they dont care or worry about the new fish?

Or is there another way? ultimately i want to keep them all together.

Thanks

If none of that works Maybe if you can pull the bass out then add new ones then add the bass back..

There is little you can do, if the bass tried to eat them last time, they will try again. Feeding them up is only a band aid for a bullet wound. Pbass are also infamous for choking on fish that are too large for them to swallow, so you are running the risk of losing the chalceus and the pbass. I have seen it before, usually with siblings, when one significantly outgrows the other.

Putting them in at night, you will eliminate the initial attack. But your fish will obviously wake up the next day, to a tasty snack! All of the recommendations so far are temporary solutions. They will not work long run.

The only legitimate option in my experience is get them closer to a compatible size. I have the same problem with a group of tinfoiled barbs with my pbass. So I'm growing the barbs out in another tank, pbass like the shiney scales too!

The bass will eventually eat the chalceus unfortunately.
