Here are some photos of my marine tank, phone is rather old so photos are rather rubbish, but you get the idea. It's low tech and highly stocked so it requires very regular water changes.

Looks like a large bio load of fish however seems to be flourshing and working well for you.

What lights, filter / flow are you running. in the process of building myself a nano reef again and have gone a vortech mp10, radion LED light unit and thinking an aqua clear 50 to hold some media etc with an ATO hooked up off that.

thanks guys!

The tank contains:

2x Tomato clowns,

1x foxface rabbitfish

1x convict damsel

1x bicolour blenny

1x coral hawkfish

1x false gamma

2x pyjama cardinals

1x valentini puffer

1x coral banded shrimp

so...yes a monstrous fish bioload, as a result I change 70% weekly with NSW which also adds plenty of micro-inverts for the corals etc to feast on.

Lighting: DALUA FW-01, 120W LED (90% white, 9% blue, 1% red, approx)

Filtration: Otto 600l/h and Otto 800l/h, plenty of water flow and keeps the water crystal clear, they're a very effective powerhead I use them in all my aquariums. Also running an air driven red sea berlin-airlift 60 protein skimmer.

It's a very low tech tank and runs no external filtration, which means regular water changes; I think it'd be rather stuffed if I ever went away for more than a couple weeks.

drop the sponges off the ottos slowly over time, live rock will out filter the filters any day.

Also increase your water flow, 1400L/hr is low.

You may want to reconsider your stocking, with such a large bio load the smallest issue will lead to tears.

Your lighting is well over powered for your tank but that isnt nessisarily bad. If you increase your water flow (no sponges on them either) you may find your coral growth will explode.

Mayeb leave one with a sponge, id like to think some form of mechanical filtration to trap crap. id opt adding purigen in one of the sections, its an excellent form of chemical filtration that helps reduce phosphates and silicates (which are problematic in reef aqauriums if in even small amounts).

all trial and error, some ppl have varying luck with setups of reefs, this approach would never work for me. my set ups ahave always had to be bloody costly and high tech. im aiming to keep my next nano a low tech but with Radion leds and vortech wave makers (no skimmer! or ATO or reactors, mind you its only 30 odd litres)
