Hammer corals prefer to be on the sand as they absorb nutrients from it, they like to be in a low flow area and will tolerate moderate to high lighting.

Its upside down! it looks like some sort of fungia coral, but if we could get a pic of the other side it would help, but you don't want it on the sand, you will find sand will settle onto it and kill it off!

Wait.... no its not! becouse that appares to be its mouth in the middle ..... or is it? nah im outta ideas, can you get a clearer pic?

The first does look like a fungia and they will do well on the sand.

The second lot of pictures is the right side up, this is the mouth. The first lot of pictures is the foot.

This is a fungia and doesn't look in the best of shape, good luck with this one!

fungia plates although they grow on rocks initally they do ok on eith the sand or up on rocks. healthy ones will move sand off them by inflating there body tissue.
also a healthy specimen will have small tenticals protruding from it and those ridges you can see will disapear under soft tissue. i have to agree with paddy on this and say it doesnt look that healthy in the photos but it could also be due to being moved around
heres a couple of mine i just took pics of to show you how they should look
long tentacle

shot tentacle - my guess is that you have this species

ive got about 20 of these in store now though the shop will not be open for a few more weeks yet
cheers
steve

damn steve ... much nicer than my plates! Although I reckon my helio looks better tongue.gif I've got two of the plate fungia corals.. one is almost all purple with green lines and the other is unfortunately mostly brown atm (seems to be getting some of its purple back though.. don't think it liked its previous location. Both extend their lil tentacles awesomely at night & when I feed the corals ... cool lil guys smile.gif
