hi everyone

my name is steve - im a cichlid hobbyist/breeder in the UK. im on this board because i hope to move over to perth by 2006 and was wondering if anyone who posts here has been lucky enough to 'escape' from the UK to the beautiful country of australia?

thats one question, the other is, whats the cichlid scene like in WA? is fish availability good?

Hi Freshie...welcome to the board.

There are a few "Too & Froms" here in Perth, I am sure.

As for the Cichlid scene, it is alive and kicking as you will see while you are here. This(the Perth page) is a very small forum.
If you have a look at some of the other forums and remember that all fish in Australia are a phone-call, a deal and a flight away from your tank.

www.sydneycichlid.com/...is a lot larger and many people from all over Australia and the world frequent the pages and provide feed-back.

Where abouts in the UK are you situated? I spent a year in the south of England on a working visa in 1984 and thoroughly enjoyed myself .

My only stop in England was on my way to Berlin - the guys at the airport with their machine guns sorta put me off a bit and I felt lucky to 'escape' at all
I live in Sydney at the moment but am moving to Perth in a few months so I will be a bit new myself. I have been to Perth quite a lot so I have a fair idea of what I will be in for You on the other hand will just love the weather lolol

hi guys

i live near to sherwood forest, the home of robin hood kind of mid-east england, very cold!

i spent a year in perth during my late teen travels, and did a fair bit of diving round rotto and if i remember correct, bixton baths on the swan river??

i cant wait to get back 'home' to see all my friends and hopefully make plenty more, especially of the cichlid ilk!

all i have to do now is get past your immigration boys...

yeh, couldnt believe the gob on that english family! they were a disgrace. i remember watching it with my gf, struggling to get through a degree course to get myself to perth, and there was this family, totally ungrateful and moaning their asses off. they were, imo, the luckiest people on earth and they had the audacity to complain! some people

dont worry guys, me and the mrs are too chilled out to moan. lifes too short.

i did manage to "escape" but that was in 1981 , and i can tell ya that this country ( more so perth ) will suit u down the ground , i havent even bothered to go back to sunny ,warm glasgow since we arrived , the cichlids scene is good , and the marine being even better as the come straight from our reefs , wat would most intrest me , is wat u are keeping over there at the moment???
wats the scene like "back home "????
i can only hope that we have more to choose from in our tropical climate , than u guys who wood almost have to put ur tanks on top of the fire place to sustain a temp of around 25 degree's hahaha

is about 2 minutes from my house...
Great lil spot for a dive or fishing.
Perths a great city...very relaxing...but a lil small.
I may be goin to England to study and play Cricket in 2005. Not sure where though yet...

bicton baths - ah yes, that is the place. did some night diving/prawning there a few times. nothing better than catching supper and cooking it on the beach

ive been keeping cichlids for about 7 years now - had a fair bit of success too. the current list:

Cyphotilapia Frontosa Zaire Blue
Neolamprolgus Leleupi
Altomlamprologus Calvus

Labidochromis Careuleus
Maylandia Callainos
Crytocara Moorii

Geophagus Brasillensis 'Bahia Red'
Hemichromis Binocalatus

the leleupi and e.yellows are show quality imo. solid colour with no black (lel.) or bars (e.y).

the fronts are still smallish - 4/5 inches, both surprisingly growing real fast, as too are the blue dolphins!

i will take some pics in a couple of weeks and post - got a sack of ocean rock coming next tuesday, so after a soak the tank should be looking fanbloodytastic

picked up some interesting shell like structures for the leleupi tank. they lovvveee it
