Perth Cichlid Society Forum’s Guide to Abbreviations, Forum Terminology and Industry Terms

Introduction
The Perth Cichlid Society forum was established in mid 2002, since this time and as such with various other forums certain terms and abbreviations and terms have been devised and become commonplace, even to the level where info and terms are widespread, with the terms transcending forums across the world. The purpose of this guide is a basic place to start if you’re confused about terms used on these forums.
Abbreviations
PCS- Perth Cichlid Society
SCP- Sydney Cichlid Page
BS- Brine Shrimp (when discussed as live feeds)
BBS- Baby Brine Shrimp (baby form of Brine Shrimp aka Artemia nauplii)
Forum Terminology
LFS- Local Fish Store (this term is also applicable to fish stores which have a “specialist” fish section)

Industry Terms
Artemia- The scientific and correct term Brine Shrimp
Arts- Used as a shortened version of Artemia
*Artemia Note
There are at least 3 varieties of Artemia spp that are available to the aquarium industry. In most cases Artemia offered for sale will either be
a)        Great Salt Lakes
        San Francisco Bay
or
c)        Chinese
I’m not totally sure if Chinese Artemia are offered to sale in stores, but they are available to the aquaculture industry, along with Russia and a few other countries.
Great Salt Lakes Artemia- are usually abbreviated to GSL, and the San Francisco Bay are abbreviated to SFB
Conventions for naming species.
The correct way for writing the species of the fish that we talk about is done as such
Archocentrus sajica
Genus        species
Genus is always Capital and species is always lower case, as according to international convention between the various scientific communities.
