after keeping discus for about 4 years now and having several pairs lay eggs in the community tank, i decided to finally have a go at breeding them. I currently have 9 discus and the ratio is 2 M and 6 F and unsure of 1. There's currently 2 pairs constantly laying eggs every week so decided to go with a Red Melon Female  x Blue Turq Male.

Set up a 3ft with the tank half full and with a few days, I had around 50 eggs.

Couple of mistakes i made, I should have reduced the flow of the air pump and there was too much movement in the tank and seems like it caused many of the eggs not to get fertilized. atleast this is what i thought it might have been.

Second mistake was turning the lights off when the eggs started to hatch, next morning i saw most of the wrigglers missing but a few.

this guy decided to venture out a bit.

not very visible but the fry ( around 10 ) of them swimming around dad having a feed of the slime coat.

at around 10 days of free swimming i decided to remove the parents as the male was getting aggressive and the female had some fin damage.

I was finally left with 6 fry and since then they have been feeding on hikari first bites, frozen daphnia and this morning they had beef heart.

I know the fry will be heavily peppered due to the mix of the parents but this was an experiment for me to see if i could get them to breed and raise fry.

day 14 today and the 6 fry are doing great and growing nicely.

will post more pics as they grow.

WoooooOooo!! Well done. So exciting.

The babies might be peppered but you're going to have some lovely shaped fish.

The parents shapes and coloring are excellent, I look forward to seeing them grow up.
