Pretty frustrating to start with , fish were very skittish. Constantly chaging scape , lighting to to try to get fish confident.all settled now and really enjoying them, still quite fussy with food though

From what i gather there would be alot of discus keepers doing daily w/c with aged pre heated water,so every 3rd day staight out of the tap is a pretty easy routine
When it comes to discus. The extra work involved with keeping discus is far out weighed by the return .

Is that because of the hormone they secrete inhibiting growth? I read about that in an article by Jack Wattley in TFH magazine. I'm keen to get discus one day, but a weekly water change is enough for me. I'd probably have to buy large discus instead of juvies

Not sure about hormone thing ( someone else may shed light ) all i know is lots of feeds, pristine water will give the best chance to reach growth potential

It takes 3 weeks for my water to register 5ppm, so I've reduced the amount of water changes I do. You inspired me to go look at discus today. I ended up buying pearl gouramis instead

Shame, go see Carlos ( living 1978 ) you wont leave there without a discus or two.

In 5 years of keeping fish i have never owned a test kit . Borrowed one when going through initial
Tank cycle , and have tested probs twice since. Keep it simple, tap water, prime & handfull rock salt every 3rd w/c.

I change water for my discus tanks about once every 2-3 weeks. They seem to be doing alright cause they have been breeding and rearing fry.
