not literally of course, but just seen the news regarding the boy north of sydney who was seconds from getting chomped.

madness. why dont the oz authorities put up a shark net at the lake inlet to stop these powerhouse cichlid wannabes from chasing water ski-ers?

Cause shark nets are impractical in that case.

First, you have to make sure the net is the right size to allow all other animals to get though but not the sharks. This isnt easy is a lot of the natural inhabitants are larger than a baby shark (who could grow upstream of the net).

Then it has to go all the way to the surface preventing boats to go though.

Then you have to make sure no sharks are upstream of the net.

Why dont they just put a warning saying to people theres sharks in the inlets.

I think the authorities take a view like...You have all seen "Jaws" so you know there are Noahs out there. Now have a nice swim. :lol

I mean c'mon man, live a little. Just think, peeps have to go all the way to New-Zealand for the thrill from Bungee jumping...you will just have to go for a swim at Cottesloe. :rollin

We're terrestrial animals that have decided we want to fly and swim....and then we're shocked when planes crash and people drown/get eaten by sharks. If we choose to fly or choose to swim, an accidents inevitable. With the amount of noahs we've killed im glad when one gets it own back :bd :smokin

My personal opinion only :lol

I live 5 mins from the Lake where the photo was taken. There simply is no way a net could be put in the channel. It's a main boating route and divers drift in and out on the tide all the time.

????? :rolleyes :rollin

You know what's scary? That you even considered that.... :p

On top of learning to walk, they'd want to learn how to dodge bullets and avoid my commodore as well :lol

i used to surf - well, paddle, kneel, slip, drown, at cottsloe for nigh on a year whilst i was over. it was 3 weeks after my return that i heard about the morning swimmer getting chomped. any more perth region shark attacks recently?

i never thought once about sharks, and only twice about spiders - once when i was bitten, and the other when i had a grey/wolf spider? running at me like something out of starship trooper.
