I understand that there's only so much the administrators can do as to what ads are posted on Ezboard, but I find it concerning to constantly see "Flowerhorn" cichlids advertised on the pages of society opposed to such hybrids.
I take the opportunity to thank the society for the forum and the wealth of information it contains, it just riles me slightly to see the advertisements.

The easy solution is to donate or get a group of people to donate some money to buy a membership to easyboard, to make it ad free. Personally I think that people using the classifieds should maybe donate to the forums as these/we/me people are the ones benifiting the most out of this. But knowing how 'we' all are 'we' can put up with the ads hey....!!!!.
I was also under the impression that the PCS was paying for the site to run.... though that is only heresay. Maybe someone can inform us!!
Rudy if you talk to people around the shops they tell you that the Flowerhorn craze is just about done. They are finding it harder and harder to sell these things and hopefully in a year or two we wont see any of their ads anyway.

I know, and as sorry as i feel for the fish themselves, i'll be glad when the craze is over.
Fishkeeping should be about enjoying the beauty of nature, not trying to manufacture beauty and then sell it through advertising.

On may way down south to vebas fish store i decided to check out some of the fish stores in that area (south of the river). I went to aquotix and one of the fishes in the tank looked like a flowerhorn. It is in the tank with the blue substrate and is by itself. If anyone knows if it is a flowerhorn i would like to know. It wasnt bad looking either
thanks peter

Nice Idea Maz. While I'm not a member of the society, donating to the forum would be a good idea.

Barca,
Yes it is, but it's a display tank and not for sale.

Hi guys,
At our current traffic rates it would cost $87 US / 6 months to run this forum completely ad free. I thought it would be a good compromise paying nothing and just getting the smaller ads (no popups) rather than paying that much and having to raise funds from members. (Quite difficult apart from a few generous individuals)
Hopefully most of you will ignore the largely irrelevant ads like I do. We may be moving to a locally hosted server eventually but that will still cost quite a bit given the amount of traffic and if we ever do so, and funds cannot be raised for a given period, the forum would shut down until it could be paid for again.
With ezboard we can revert to ad based and keep the forum running in one way or another.
HTH explains it all a little
cheers

Well there is something to think about and discuss. To be perfectly honest I hadn't even noticed the ads because I never look at them.
We will talk about it at the next general and committee meetings I guess.

Yes that guy is a flowerhorn/ luohan, and IMO is a spectacular example of the fish, though being the guy I am I don't endorse the fish at all, and I mush prefer my flowerhorns that I have, I'll post a few pics up later

and this is what your tank looks like if you keep them

I would have had the image display itself but I remembered that some people might have adsl, and they might not want to see my pics, as it increases their monthly download?
The fish in question is a Red Devil, none of the pics do justice for his beautiful nuchal hump
