Finallllllllllllly after a long wait I got my cabinet and started working on the new project yesterday(29/07/10).

Tank size : 5'x18"x2.5' approx 500L, painted black to back and sides
Cabinet size : 5'x18"x37" H
Filtration: Fluval FX5 and Otto 2000Lph internal.
Heating: Jager 300W

The Tank

The Cabinet

The 'Engine' Room

Old Tank vs new place

Tank+Cabinet

Since it is a high tank and a high cabinet (combined height of 170cm), we had a hard time lifting heavy rocks into the tank.
But luckily we managed to get these big pieces in without cracking the tank. I also had some foam between the tank and the rock as cushions.

The finished (Well, half finished tongue.gif ) product.

I am pretty happy with how it has turned out so far. Now it's only a matter of waiting for the water to clear out and the tank to mature before I can add fish.
So that's all for now. Hope you enjoyed.

Having just scaped my 5x2x2.5 last week can totally understand the pain these tall tanks are to work on a ladder is required definatly.

You should have drilled out the rocks before putting them in there to give the fish 100s more places to hide/create territories all you need is a power drill and a $50 3/4"x12" drill bit from bunnings and go nuts.

Otherwise all looking pretty awesome!

Thanks Juls. Yeah these high tanks are a pain to work on but it's worth it after you have done it.
About the rock I didn't want to have too many holes as I mainly keep Malawi peacocks and haps.
But drilling holes would have made them lighter and easier to carry but then I have never drilled a rock before.

FINALLY!!! Isnt the word...
I cant believe how long the cabinet took. Never again.

But in the end it looks fantastic. And the tall tank makes it look awesome.

The end result will be fantastic no doubt.

Hey Az, Thanks. After all that they still managed to get one thing wrong. The hole for the cable is smaller than what I drew up for them and I had a really hard time fitting all the cables as well as the pipes from the filter through the hole. But I am glad it's all done now.

Cheers
Jack.

Hey mate tank looks Awesome, Did you drill those holes in the rock. If so, I would have drilled holes in all of them would have looked great also.

well done

Tim

EDIT: Just read more post above about holes.

How do you find that canister is it good ? compared to Ehiem ?

Yeah mate the FX5 works a treat. I have both Eheim 2080 and the FX5 and they are both excellent filters. I can't pick a clear winner if you ask me
Things to consider is that FX5 is like half the price of the Eheim 2080 but however it consumes twice as much power. So in a long run the power bill/running cost will catch up.

yeah reading few reviews seeing the ehiem still comes out on top.

I was looking at the 2228 ehiem one. $399 includes media etc.
doesnt have prime but less to go wrong i guess.

so hard to decide .

Where did you get your cichlids from what store you find the best range

got any updated photos

U should check out the photo album for the updated photos mate. 2228 is also a good one but you have to consider the biolaod it can handle as well. I find that Midland pet, Malaga and Aquotix usually carry a wide range of cichlid.

Jack.
