I upsized a couple of weeks ago from a 3 foot to a 6 foot and am on my way to having it set up how I imagined..

Tank : 72”x14”x18” = 290L
Filter : Aquaone Aquis 1200 + Masterpet internal power filter(biggest one from kmart - more for circulation than filtration)
Heater : Aquaone 300W + Aquaone 150W (will probably take out the 150W in a month or so..)
Light : Old 3 foot, need to purchase 6 foot asap.
Substrate : White wash sand
Décor : Limestone Rocks
Fish : 3 x Labidochromis caeruleus (Electric Yellow)
3 x Melanochromis maingano (Maingano)
3 x Pseudotropheus acei
7 x Aulonocara stuartgranti

Things To Do:
1 – Buy 6 foot light
2 – Make hood for top of tank
3 – Make Doors/Panels for stand
4 – Java Fern attached to some rocks

Where possible I have tried to buy fish in groups of 1 male and 2-3 females, not because I want to breed but to curve aggression. This is a community display tank but I want to keep several groups rather than one of everything. In a month or so I will probably add another group(3-4) of a different species, don’t want anything overly aggressive and want to keep with Malawi theme, also a plus if both male and females are “colourful”. Currently thinking Protomelas Similis, Copadichromis Chrysonotus or Azurus, or Cynotilapia “lions cove”. Any issues on compatibility or availability or other species suggestions?

If any of you seasoned vets can see any issues, or just have a comment, on my setup please don’t hold back!

P.S. I only have phone photos at the moment.. hopefully get some better photos soon

P.P.S. Sorry if I have stuffed up spelling, or used the completely wrong names.

Yes I believe so.. the EY have already had one go at it because when I moved the fish and rocks from the old tank to new I found a little EY about 1cm big.. he is getting close to 2cm now!

Is it cruel for me to not try and save as many fry as possible?

ie. let the fry be released in this tank and if some become breakfast so be it?

I think I used all my browney points up when the missus came home and first seen the 6ft sitting in the lounge ohmy.gif .. might not be able to set up a fry grow out tank for a while.. dry.gif

Added background and rearranged rocks at the same time - out of necessity. Also wanted some green in there so theres abit of Narrow and normal Java fern about the place.

The larger lot of Narrow JF to the middle left, I hope to grow very bushy so it hides the join in the background better ohmy.gif(

I havnt lost any fish since setting up and the EY have had another lot of fry and pretty sure one of the females is currently holding again..
