QUOTE
should i clean the filter or will something bad happen?
im thinking of taking out half the water and take out the rocks and catch all the fish and put them in a bucket and clean evrything!

Doing this will destroy all the bacteria that is in the gravel and filters.

You didnt come in today, so I guess you couldnt get down. Im not there tomorrow so to get a proper test done you would have to wait until Wednesday.
Terri Anne can do it but to get a proper run down you will need to see me.
Im more than happy to help you when you you do come in. wink.gif

Sounds like what our fish looked like. We went through a whitespot treatment and have a few fish left now, 1 maingano, 4 red empresses, a couple of elec yellows and all the brislenose, pepermints and orangespots. We forked over some cash and had an entimologist come over and run tests on the tank and he found nothing wrong with the water or anything else. We have been prescribed an antibiotic "oxytetracycline" to be used over a 15 day period when doing a water change. Along with that every 2nd day monitoring ammonia and nitrate levels. This is so far working and no more losses so far biggrin.gif . The local vet wanted a "live fish" for sacrifice to run tests, if you want to go that way. Fish keeping is a costly hobby and sometimes the extra cost is worthwhile seeking expet advice.

Phillip....please take note of what has been said. The First step you need to do if you haven’t already done so is Get your water tested. This will rule out the more common causes for the problems you are describing. If they all come back clear then you can look towards infection, unless, you have evidence of such infection such as symptoms of white spot. Giving broadband antibiotics is not the starting point to fix the problem. Dead fish do not give a good indication to the underlying problem, they are not even any good for autopsy, which is why sacrificing a live fish is sometimes required. Take Aaron up on his offer or someone closer to you if that is easier for you.

Hi Philip,

Your original post was dated June 22 nd. Have you actually had your water tested yet ?

How many fish have you lost to date ?
How many are left in that particular tank ?

i havnt been able to get my water tested yet but i think i have solved it!!
i did a big water change and i found a fork under the sand that HAD zuccini on it and i forgot to take it out, so it rusted up!!
but ever since i took it out and did the water change nothing has gone wrong!!
no fish dead!
no fish sick!
and they are all healthy and good and started breeding again!! tongue.gif
i have no idea what it was but what ever it was, it was really bad!
any suggestions of what it could of been?

I cant imagine the rust would be very good for the water either.
I would suggest next time you try feeding fish zucchini you get a bit of pvc tube and hold the food to it with a rubber band.
I would say it was the fork

Better still, Why not steam or boil it until it can sink on it's own.
Looks better than a manky rubberband or a fork in the tank.

You can test it's sinkablity ( not a word I know) by having a tub of water next to the stove and dropping the Zucc in it when it starts to change color, if it's not ready, keep cooking until it is.

Easy as 1,2,3

Cheers
Az
