Who's kept these guys? Im picking two up tomorrow for something different , tips from anyone who had had Exp keeping would be great

Havent kept purples but have kept other gudgeons. They are all kinda cranky so provide some hidey holes (wood or plants) and watch to see how they go because some can become very intolerant of other fish. What size tank are they going in and what are you keeping them with?

4x2x2 , got given some silver dollers and a Tandanus which I could move to another tank , a large featherfin and 8 cm oscar, might put the gudgeon in my native tank if the oscar picks on it tho.
Just reckon they would look good in with my bigger fish seeing as they stick to the bottom

How big's the gudgeon?

Hard to say with oscars. Sometimes they are sooks other times they are god damned aquarium terrorists! I would have thought a 10cm gudgeon should be ok with an 8cm oscar though.

What other natives have you got?

Got some Pygmy perch and rainbows with my baby turtle

Id love to keep turtles again but the two species we can keep dont really excite me that much...

Anyway back to the purple spotted gudgeon. One of the few natives that prefer slightly acidic to neutralish pH. They are jumpers so good tank lids are a must. In the wild they are pretty adept at battling their way up creeks in difficult conditions so they jump naturally at any opportunity to escape.
They would be a good fish to breed... not stupidly difficult/impossible like empires, etc.

Oblong , he's in a growing tank untill he moves into a pond and he's not bothered with the other fish, btw the gudgeons went fine, oscars didn't care at all it was the Tandanus that chased it abit that's all
