I thought it was about time I posted some pics of my new (secondhand) 300Litre display tank.(thanks Bigbadboss)
It is ready for fish and Ive been adding a few slowly, So far 10 rummynose and 10 cardinals.
Attached File  IMGP4151.JPG   350.44KB   209 downloads
The tank is a Jebo bowfront and Im running an Eheim 2217 with prefilter module (Aquotix) and Hydor 300watt inline heater.
The background is rubber but Im not sure on brand, And there is 4 bags of crystal black sand in there.
Attached File  IMGP4164.JPG   435.77KB   103 downloads
Ive added some dritwood and plants Red tiger lotus, tri-colour lotus, Java fern and java moss with more to come.
Im not after the full planted look but just a few more and Ill be happy.
The idea is to try and get the moss to cover a lot of the rocks and background and to have the fern growing all over the wood.
Attached File  IMGP4165.JPG   434.09KB   89 downloads
Under and behind the wood and rocks I have 2 ceramic log caves and a slate cave for when I decide which of my plecs are going in.
The filter intake looks a bit obvious in there so I will come up with a way to hide or cover that one.
Attached File  IMGP4187.JPG   416.99KB   89 downloads
It was gonna be a discus display tank but after some time Ive decided to do a tetra community, with either peppermints (my 2 breeding trios) or my 6 sub adult L397s.
Some other fish I might also add later are; A heap more tetras, a pair of whips, shrimp, and maybe some laser cories. etc.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions Id be happy to hear them.
Thanks to; Bigbadboss for the tank,
Aquotix for the red and tri-colour lotus, Java moss, black sand, prefilter module and fish.
Plecoking for the driftwood,

Cheers Mick.

I checked the PH last night and it was in the High 7s, so I chucked in around 10 almond leaves overnight only to wake up this morning to a tank full of tannins.
Not the look Im after so Ive taken out the leaves and rechecked the PH which has already come down a bit. I do have Biochem zorb in the cannister filter so hopefully it removes the colour quickly.
I have noticed some algea growth in the tank ( black brush on the background and brown spots on the glass ) which hopefully I can keep under control.
When I planted my lotus I did place some fert tabs underneath ( dino dung ) maybe this is causing an algea out break????
Any help/interest appreciated.

Mate, that is looking really nice, I love planted tanks
If the driftwood won't drop the pH, then go injected co2
good excuse to spend more dosh on the tank biggrin.gif
I got the bulk of my co2 gear from Aquotix, and the plants have grown well from it

Thanks Jason. the wood and plants will work to drop the PH I think. Although my tapwater is around 7 anyway, so as long as it hovers around that mark my fish will be happy Id say. I do like the look of a good CO2 injected, planted setup but Im more interested in fish than plants, and I reckon you can still have a nice few plants without it.

My tank has now cleared up again from the almond leave tannins and Ive added some crested java fern and 10 cherry shrimp since the pics.
More pics soon.

The background looks like new again.
Ill get some more pics when it starts to look different enough to bother.

Updated tank shot
Its hard to get GOOD pics as they always seem a bit out of focus.
I took heaps but none have been worthy of posting.
Lotus are growing well. As well as the Java fern and moss.
Added some royal whips and blonde endlers.
All the little yellow dots around the surface are endler fry.

Ill be looking at getting a heap more cardinals soon.

Try tilting the camera down slightly when taking a shot, helps to reduce the glare.cheers steve

Thought it was about time I put some updated pics up, Its looking a lot better since the last updates. One of the light switches died a while ago so it was not getting full light til I had it fixed but all sweet now. The fish must be happy I have endlers, peppermint BN and cherry shrimp breeding constantly and the royals have just spawned for the first time.

UPDATE, Ive had an EXTREME outbreak of BBAlgea in the last couple of months. Ive done a bit of research and have always rinsed my bloodworms before adding them to the tank and even then they only get a couple of bloodworm squares per week. I had my water tested for phosphates goin back a month or so and the readings were around 1ppm. I was advised to add pondcare Phos-out with every water change at around half the dose so Ive been doing that too. Since Ive started trying to get rid of this stuff it has multiplyed 10 fold and is really starting to make the tank look like sh!t. I can remeber years ago I had an outbreak ( although not to the scale of this one ) and I was told by someone at an LFS to dose daily with flourish Excel, Has anyone else tried this method or have any other ideas for me.
PS the lights are on for around 12hrs a day and I dont use ferts other than dino dung when I initially planted the tank out. I feed mainly with Sera Flora, Sera Viformo, Hikari wafers and occasional bloodworms, dont know if this helps my cause either.
I also seem to get a lot of lime green spot algea on the glass which is not as bigger deal as the BBA cos it scrapes off easy and does not seem to form anywhere else than the glass.
Any advice would be great.
I will get some updated pics tomorrow to show you how bad it is.

I bought 4 small siamese algae eaters , reduced lighting to 10 hours, then double dosed with Flourish Excel. I also reduced feeding, increased water change frequency, and seemed to work. I have read that spot dosing with dino spit or florish excel or API co2 booster will help. there are also more extreme methods, but none that i have tried. good luck getting rid of it. BBA looks like poo!
