His other eye is currently a bit glassy...
at first it was treated as popeye... it since cleared and then 3 days after the symptoms where totally gone this horrid looking thing came out.
I remember my mate saying how good his eye looks now it is back to normal the one day and the next day he actually was the one who noticed this piece of yuk!
any help is appreciated!

It looks like a tumour type growth (I don't know what the cause is, but I will look into it and find out the possibilities), where the only way out is past the eye socket.
I will read up on it over the next few days to see if there are any possibilities for remedial action... it is a rare problem, but considering the value of such a fish, it might be worth trying something.....
I will let you know in a couple of days if I find anything, meanwhile, good luck...

I have removed a similar (but much larger) tumour on a goldfish by removing the whole eye..... all I can say is "yuck!" and my guts still turn thinking what I had to do to remove it.. but the fish is still alive today, and happy.

I wouldn't put it on a fish though, it stings like hell when you put it on human skin, broken or unbroken skin!

It seems to be more like a growing tumour that has found and outlet for the excess pressure that is building up. There might be some other internal pressures that could be affecting the brain (guessing here) which could explain the withdrawn character.
Very little you can do (nothing at this stage unless you wish to remove the eye)

the 'tumour' went white and has now actually broken off the fish and the mass behind his eye seems to be reducing in size.
Will try and get some recent pictures
