Has anyone used the led rope you can buy on ebay for their tanks?
My led setup seems to be on its way out, and they are so bulky under my hood so i was thinking of getting some white LEDs and also the red and blue plant ones and just connecting them to my lid so its less of a pain to open the glass lids ect

Saw this video a while ago, not 100% what you are looking for but not a bad idea at all!

Thats very similar to what i want to do and then mount that into my hood to replace all my lights sitting on the lids.
Ive seen some led ropes made for hydroponics, i was thinking of combining those with white leds to keep the plants happy but also have the white lites to make the tank look like natural light

That sounds a nice idea. I'm assuming the hydroponic lights are high in red light(?) and having white to balance that out sounds good. Hydroponic lights high in red light I found terrible to look at even though they had a good spectrum for plants. I'm impressed with a hydroponic rope led.

Yeah red with a small amount of blue in them
I figured if i have twice as much white to the hydro lights it should even it out reasonably.

That sounds like my box one. On the spectrum it was good on blues (on only a few leds) and reds, low in the greens.
I found putting putting white light first (so first rope at front of tank white), helped tone out the red light a lot (I had a combination of box lights and strip lights).
