Making some early ideas of a planned Tanganyikan setup for myself and wanted to get some ideas for stock by seeing what Tangs you guys like, have had good experiences with what tangs (or others really) you've kept together and its gone well. 

 

The ones ive so far had good interest in are Frontosa of course and Alto. Compressiceps and Calvus i absolutely adore, syno. petricola are also neat, I dont know if for a tang tank petricola is the only option or if other synos work alright. Any experiences you've had with these fish would be extra awesome aswell

 

None of these are going to be completely conclusive of course as peoples experiences with types of fish are all different but its more or less to just get some ideas around and see what fish you guys suggest.

I have seen them over east and they weren't cheap from memory, join 'tropheus and tangs australia' on facebook if you want to find some.

Thanks also to the fish you guys have mentioned, ocellatus and tropheus were some i hadnt looked much into but its been said here and malawiman i believe had some mighty praise for tropheus and i think ocellatus look pretty darn cool. Just getting me very very excited for the changeover to Tangs

any tang that my americans will eat lol  (btw don't get your nickers in a knot its just a joke... ive never fed my americans tangs before they much prefer malawi's for some reason )

I cant even think about keeping the real big hitters atm, still living at home and managing a tall 4ft display, 2.5ft growout and 2 18" misc tanks in my 12'x8' room (alongside a rather large desk and my bed) so for me atm I dont think id wanna sacrifice my one larger tank for a few (or just 1) big guys maybe when i become a millionaire and have a house full of 6 and 8fts i can keep some haha

Edit: talking about americans btw, most of the ones i see people keep are the big aggressive guys (although a quick google did reveal geos which ive seen but not looked much into and they are incredible, and not too gigantic either)

ive got some geos but they are only just over 10cm atm so got alot of growing to do still

Start off with some Julidochromis marlieri or Neolamprologus tretocephalus  hardy and dont take much to breed.  If you want to spend a little more $$ Altolamprologus calvus or Cyprichromis leptasoma. 

 

If you want something a little more challenging find some Opthalmotilapia ventralis.  Go to vebas and see what they have (usually a healthy selection) or aquotix.

Cheers for the suggestions extend, Calvus especially (or maybe Alto. Comps) have been one of those fish ive been interested in from the very start. The marlieri and ventralis are also very nice and are high stocklist options now, the ventralis is as close to a featherfin (i think, the ones with the real long fins below em) ill get without getting ridiculously aggro from what ive quickly read about them. Cyprichromis ive been aware of for a while as they are the open water swimmers i believe and look really darn cool when schooling.

I love the frontosa. Had a colony of 6 bar Burundi, and they were nice looking fish.
Also really like the look of adult size calvus. Such sloooooooow growing fish
